[Network] Just be honest with us...

So why are we dealing with such a SLOW internet? I went to the preferred test site, Speakeasy, and Download speed is 0.05Mps!!!!!. It has been this way for about a month now. What gives? I just want the truth..... OK... I will test again... OOOOOH a blazing 0.26Mps! at 7:30 pm.....

Please Aaron, what gives???

So just for the fun of it I just did a test on Speedtest.net, the site Aaron does not approve and got a better speed.... 0.32Mps. Ping 1266ms..... which just goes to show that really, it doesn't matter who is doing the test.... right now Windstream is shafting me.

The problem is that almost all of Windstream's network is overburdened, and they act like it's such a surprise that it's that way. They like to use band-aid fixes that will only help for approximately six months or so, and then it's back to square one. They have no sense of urgency when it comes to anything, except when it comes time to collect your payment for "service."

wheelbarrow,
The majority of our network is not overburdened. I can see how you would come to that assumption based on being a member of the forums. Customers that are having troubles are understandably more vocal than customers that are not having any issues.
In regards to band-aid fixes; installing fiber, ethernet and the corresponding equipment is not a 'band-aid' fix.

TiminNC,
I am not familiar with your account or area off hand. Please send me the phone number related to your DSL line and I will look into it. As most people here know I am not one to sugar coat or pull punches. If your area will not be fixed in a prompt manner I will tell you.

There are also plenty of people that experience horribly slow speeds and just live with it without calling to complain or posting on forums. If WS official position is that the only people having issues are those who actually complain then that would explain why they don't do more to fix the problems. A few hundred may complain in forums and FB threads while a few hundred more call in periodically. I would venture to say the problems are much more widespread than even WS is aware of. I personally know plenty of people who experience these nightly slow downs and have never reported it. The biggest reason is because of so many people telling them they complain with little to no results so they figure it won't do any good. Then there are plenty of people who experience slow speeds and just live it and let it go. Well WS, I see posts of people from most every state that WS services so I would say it is a widespread issue whether you guys will admit it or not. And a $10 credit when in the late pm hours EVERYDAY I experience 90% loss of service is just a slap in the face. I get 12mb every morning no prob, but after 7-8 pm, my dsl is basically useless. It's not a problem on my end just like its not a problem on most people's end and that's another reason why many don't complain more, the standard protocol of reset this and that when you guys know the problem is on your end is just too frustrating to deal with.

Maybe I'm off, but I've never found it to be a fair test to utilizing the ISPS speedtest. It essentially never leaves their network. Along the same token I don't ever use their DNS either

So what is the "ultimate" site to use for a speed test???

Actually called C.S. at 10:45 PM after speed testing at .26Mps and was told that there are some equipment changes in place, but of course, was not told any estimate to when the fix would be final. Have to call business office in the AM to get any sort of adjustment.... But at least I am told that there is a problem..... better than a total run around that there must be something on my end that is giving me the problem...... Hope?????

In the mornings I am not even getting the 6mbps that I pay for. My max seems to run at about 5 and sometimes 4. (whatever). Better than the .02 and .05 and 1.? it tends to run the rest of the day. But you'd think at 5:30 am that not many people would be up and online.

I think at this point I am going to call the office and tell them to down grade me to a cheaper package. Since I am not getting what I am paying for why pay for it. I'll just drop to the slowest speed until they get things fixed.

I agree with this and want to add to it. There are LOTS of people who don't realize their connection is slow because they don't game. Or if it is slow they don't know enough to test the speed.
I don't game and to be honest slow speed doesn't bother me until it goes below 3mbps. I have the extra 3mps because I know that it can slow down during peak hours. I was hoping the extra 3mbps would cover this for me so I wouldn't lose out on the work I have to do. I was wrong. With 6mbps I am getting speeds on a regular basis that can't reach 2mbps and usually are below 1 mbps. There are a lot of people who get the 6mbps because they think they they need the speed when they really don't.
Considering how inept the CS has been on how their own equipment works or how even the internet works through a modem and wireless receiver, it shouldn't be hard to believe that a normal person with no training would not be aware there was actually an issue.
So far the ONLY person who has been honest with me and actually tried to help was the technician who came out. He tried changing the pin but it didn't help. As I said before he also seemed perplexed as to why next door they were getting 12mbps and I wasn't. I realize people can be on different lines and connections in the box. (sorry I do not know what they are called) but he seemed to believe we were on the same one and that I should be getting my full speed.

Well I don't game, but we do like to watch Netflix and Amazon streaming video, neither of which are possible during late pm hours.

The issue of which speed test to use needs to be dropped by Windstream. I pay for 12Mbps and all of the speed tests agree that I am getting 5% of that. FIVE PERCENT. FIVE PERCENT. I pay 100% and I get 5%.

Thanks for all the replies.... keep them coming. But it really seems so mysterious what goes on behind closed doors right??? I mean, ACW, your problem has got to be so frustrating when even the field tech can't figure out what is going on.... and thanks for the tip without even knowing you gave me one.... I was under the assumption that upgrading to a faster package would get me a better general throughput, but I now know better. If the right "box" ain't working 12Mps won't do crap but give you that beloved .2Mps nightmare...

No gaming here but Netflix, Hulu yes..... but a WORKING 3Mps package is fine for that so long as the central office gear is working. And apparently my C.O. gear is "in line" for repairs...... So I wait for I have no options where I live.... So long as I have email I guess I am ok ehhehehehe.

Yeah I tend to agree..... I have tried multiple tests and they are usually nearly the same for any given time....

No speedtest is perfect and can be affected by things going on your own internal network but if you consistently get under 0.2 MBPS like I did on Windstream and are paying for 6 MB something is seriously wrong. Now in RR It consistently get at least 12 MB on what is advertised as 15 MB. Most of the time the results are higher.

Well somebody did something right.... Access was down for repairs earlier today but it looks as though things are back to as they should be... for me at least.... I have a 3Mps line and have been averaging about 2.3-2.5 Mps for the last hour.....

The parts of your network that IS over burdened NEVER gets fixed. Over 2 years here and counting. Nothing but lies, lies and more lies.
