Re: Introducing DSL Extreme Fusion Broadband + Phone

AT&T currently has a feature called WirePro - you pay several dollars every month, and if you have a problem with your home phone line, they will come and fix it for free. Many phone lines in my area are old and have problems quite often. Will DSLExtreme/Sonic have this feature?

When will it be available in Woodland Hills 91364? Right now it states I am 3600 feet behind something that doesn't let the signal pass through. I am with dslextreme many years and this would be fantastic.

Navean, without knowing your exact line quality it's impossible to say with certainty, but as a very rough estimate I'd predict between 7-20Mbps down, and around 1-1.5Mbps up. As you can see, the upstream doesn't vary much, but the downstream can differ significantly based on your line's unique physical quality and loop length. Bear in mind, just because YOU are 0.5 miles from your central office, doesn't mean your loop length is; your line follows street routes and is not an 'as the crow flies' path.

We currently do not have modems with wifi built in, last I checked.

Actual downtime during the swap is typically about an hour or less.

I unfortunately don't have a precise roadmap of exactly when certain areas will have service available. We're expanding service as fast as we can, but I don't have target predictions on that for you, sorry.

At this time, we are not planning on having any sort of WirePro plan, insofar as I am aware. However, any outside phone line issues are repaired free of charge under our current service offering, so it's only if your inside wiring for your building itself is having trouble that there'd be any charge for wire repair. So, you don't need to worry if the outside lines are old - those will get fixed, and you don't even have to pay a monthly fee. If you're currently paying for WirePro and your inside wiring is having trouble, I'd recommend taking advantage of that (you're paying for it, after all) and having your inside wiring fixed first, before switching over to us.

@moparoy: It says you are 3600 behind something that doesn't let the signal pass through? I'm not sure where you're seeing that. Are you connected to a RT rather than CO, perhaps?

Do we get a test period to evaluate the speed of the service? 7-20 is a pretty large range so we can swap back with out breaking the contract? Almost ready to decide and thanks for the help!

We are currently unable to provide you with Fusion because you are 3736 feet behind a remote terminal

I can get 5.3 on the jack downstairs, 4.5-4.9 upstairs, and 5.4 from the NID. So is that the max i can get from my line? i dont think installing a pots adsl2+ splitter outside will do any good. My house is pretty new, built in the 90s so the wiring sucks for dsl since its parallel wiring method. Thanks.

Yeah, in your case a POTS splitter wouldn't make a significant difference; as you can see, using your existing filters you're seeing 5.3 inside vs. 5.4 at the NID, so the best improvement the POTS splitter could possibly do is to bump the downstairs 5.3 to 5.4.

Actually, you've only been charged a month and change; you've paid for part of February, and for March (as normal, since it's now March).

If you want to cancel your Fusion contract without ETF, you can do so, but I believe you have a previous contract from before which would still be in effect (although it looks like that one's almost over too). I'm a little surprised you'd want to cancel, however, given the Fusion service is both faster and cheaper than traditional DSL+phone.

If i wanted the phone + dsl, its a good deal. But i just want faster speeds. im only getting about 2/3 increase from 3.0 plan and paying twice as much. im not getting the avg speed about 7.0 range based on my distance according to the charts so its disappointing. 4.7 out of up to 20.0 plan is not good at all for me.

Hi kenjai7373 See Profile,

Even when you factor in the cost of the phone line through AT&T with the standard ADSL1 package? As we said the vast majority of our clients are finding the bundle through DSL Extreme a much better package from both a speed and value perspective. YMMV of course. You are also welcome to go back to AT&T phone service and our standard ADSL1 of course but we think the Fusion package is a better value.

Thanks

its been a month now our phone problem still there (tried both cordless & corded phones)

the last at&t technician told me the problem is not my wiring or my phone.

now i got this from my dslextreme ticket

Hello,

We wanted to check in with you regarding the trouble ticket for Fusion circuit. AT&T was unable to find any problems with the outside line up to the customer's MPoE. At this point AT&T believes that the problem is either with the customer's internal wiring or modem. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

I tried calling you on the cellphone number we have for you, but it's not reaching you (and won't let me leave a voicemail because voicemail's not set up yet). Do you have another number we should call you back on, or is there another time that would work better? Please send me an IM and let me know.

yeah its a good value but i dont use the phone at all. old att line is just to receive calls which is only a few bucks. i wouldnt mind paying for just the dsl if the speeds are great improvement over the 3.0 plan.

Have you checked your monthly AT&T statement lately? They've been sharply increasing the price of basic phone service.

I had measured service on my AT&T line before switching to Fusion -- that's the plan where you get a set number of free minutes for local calling, and then you pay per minute. It's basically the cheapest phone service available (except for the LifeLine program for low income households). My last monthly charge was $24.54, and that's staying within the free minute threshold. And the base monthly rate just went up another $3, from $12.37 to $15.37, on March 1.

how much to install new lines?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking how much it'd be to have a new (second) outside phone line run from the Central Office to your phone box, or how much it'd cost to have new (second) wiring from from the phone box into your house and connected to a new inside jack, or how much it'd cost to replace your existing wiring from the phone box to the existing jacks inside of your house?
