pende_tim posted : I have Comcast "performance" tier service and am seeing some slowness when I use my wireless connection.

If I use the wireless N or G the connection tests at 17-20Mbps down with a ping of 38 to the best server on speedtest.net.

If I plug an Ethernet cable in, I test at 25-27Mbps with a ping of 25ms os the wireless is costing me 20% of my speed :(

My setup: Dell laptop with Intel Centrino 1030 card, Router is Asus RT-n16 with Tomato Firmware v1.28.7494 MIPSR2-Toastman-VLAN-RT K26 USB VPN, located about 30' from the Router.

WMM is enabled, Tomato power is set to 100mw, laptop power is set to max, using "N" and signal signal is "excellent" . Same speed results with or with out WPA2 security.

One curious thing: on the Wireless 1030 card "advanced" properties tab, I have 802.11n Mode "enabled" but under Wireless Mode, there are only 3 selections: 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11b/g

The area is a little congested: the Intel Diagnostics shows 17 APs available for connection so there may be a little interference, however the Tomato site survey shows the closest frequency channels are -80dBm.

Any tweaks recommended on the configuration or information needed to help diagnose and improve this connection?

Thanks, Tim
--
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.
