G.DMT and ADSL2+ Negotiation modes

Click for full size
Hey guy's just wondering if it's normal for my modem negotiation modes to change between G.DMT and ADSL2+? It seem's to happen randomly and when I reboot the modem - sometimes its ADSL2+, sometimes its G.DMT.

I notice performance issues more so on G.DMT which is why I wanted to ask here, maybe someone with insight could tell me if it's a problem with my port perhaps, or if this is normal?

My ping's and download seem to take a hit when im on G.DMT. With ADSL2+ it seems a lot more rock solid. I'm going to assume my line noise is probably bad which is why it changes? I use the Actiontech modem so you'd think it would run best with ADSL2+.

Thanks for any insight in advance.

It shouldn't switch back and forth. That mode (DMT or ADSL) is dependent on what type of port you're provisioned with at the DSLAM/CO (DMT/2, ADSL2/+ or VDSL.)

If there's ADSL/VDSL ports available in your area, we should be able to move you over to a 'newer' port if you qualify.

Thanks for the reply.

That's why I figured I would ask, it does change between adsl2+ and DMT. I can't figure out why it would though if its on the port side of things, and if im provisioned for adsl2+.

So does this mean the port i'm on has issues? I've tryed online support and they didn't really understand why it was happening or understand what I was asking to begin with.

Maybe a nice Telus person here could have a look for me. =)

I could. PM me your phone number or account number and I'll take a look at it.

From my experience in the industry it should sync up at ADSL2+ but it can fallback to GDMT if there are problems on the line.

This could be port, modem, or line issues.

Likely the switch to GDMT is a symptom of the performance issues that you are having not the cause of them. Though I suppose how fast is your connection? Since GDMT maxes out around 8 if memory serves me.
