[AB] Shaw Gateway

Diagram, not really, it "has" to be done by a Shaw install, not something you are allowed to install yourself.

At the main line coming into your address, a Low-Pass-Filter is installed so that the high frequencies used by the Gateway (MoCA) don't leave the address.

The Gateway is installed with two cable lines to a main splitter, and the Gateway installed somewhere out of the way.

Portals are then installed at your TVs, using the existing coax cables, the Portals find the Gateway using MoCA, and then the system is activated.

Yeah I found a picture.

The reason why I was asking is cause im finishing up my basement and wanted to make sure my layout would work when the installer installs everything.

In From Shaw --->|3 way spliter - Gateway
- Modem
- Phone

ANd then From the Gateway to the 8 port passive distribution thingy for the tv's in the house.

If you do that, there won't be a normal cable signal going to the other TV outlets, if you want to use anything other than a Portal, such as a normal PVR, analog TV, you would be doing something like this;

From Shaw to a 4 way splitter
Gateway
Modem
Phone
8-port distribution

The Gateway connects to the 8-port distribution as well with the RF Output.

As long as the distribution thingy doesn't filter the high frequencies.

Yeah Only have 4 tv's in the house so im all good

I haven't tried it on newer Gateway code, but you used to be able to connect a MoCA Bridge to the gateway, and then use Ethernet to the Portals. This would have to be a separate network from your internet though, as the gateway does its own DHCP, etc.

This would let you keep standard cable to all your homes cable outlets :P.

Later this year, they are supposed to be enabling the ethernet on the Gateway units too, then you won't need the bridge

Supposed to, and will, are different as allways though.

Also, anybody else notice, that all MoCA hardware seems to have disappeared from the market?

Hopefully it's because MoCA 2.0 is coming out?

It has been a few months now, but even the information pages from the brand's websites have been removed.
