I haven't tried it on newer Gateway code, but you used to be able to connect a MoCA Bridge to the gateway, and then use Ethernet to the Portals. This would have to be a separate network from your internet though, as the gateway does its own DHCP, etc.

This would let you keep standard cable to all your homes cable outlets :P.

Later this year, they are supposed to be enabling the ethernet on the Gateway units too, then you won't need the bridge

Supposed to, and will, are different as allways though.

Also, anybody else notice, that all MoCA hardware seems to have disappeared from the market?

It's not. It's because MoCA won't be sold retail anymore... powerline has won for that market.
