| How full should an HDD be? I have an external 1TB WD Elements HDD that I use for media and Acronis image backups of my boot drive. The boot drive backup gets replaced so it remains pretty constant in size with very little growth since I install new programs to a second internal drive. As the pic shows my external is just past 90% full and I am wondering if I should start using another drive at this point or if it is ok to fill it completely. -- malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

| I was thinking something similar and while I do store my boot drive backups there but the media files are not backups and are actively used. I guess the question is if reading those files randomly presents a need to have the defragment option available. |

 | reply to george357 You can fill it pretty close to 100% without any ill effect.
If it was a boot drive, especially if it was also an SSD, that would no longer be the case, but that's a whole different ballgame and you don't need to worry about that. -- Wacky Races 2012! |
