 | [Tampa] 10% subscription speed for weeks and extreme latency TAM I have had horribly slow BH / RR speeds for several weeks now. I've checked the speeds daily on speedtest.net with various servers throughout my state and I'm repeatedly getting speeds that are averaging 1.5 mb/s or slower when I'm paying for 20 mb/s with RR Lightning. This, coupled with ridiculous latency makes using the internet impossible. Today is the first day I've had a ping under 250 ms. It's not uncommon for it to be up to 1+ seconds (not milliseconds), which is nothing short of ludicrous for servers stationed on planet earth in the 21st century. I've "power cycled" my modem and router enough times to make myself turn blue in the face.
This is unacceptable and not the first time I've encountered this with Bright House. I've lived in other areas in Florida and used a different BH provided cable modem, used a different wireless router, and used completely different PCs and wireless peripherals and had the same issues. The last time the internet was this bad, in May of 2011, I performed complete trace routes and identified the latency issues as originating from road runner servers a few hops down the line. After spending literally hours on the phone with support staff who kept telling me to turn my modem off and turn it back on, I was finally able to get to someone who knew about the network and wasn't reading from a tech support flow chart. I sent the results to Vince at tampabayrr.
It's sad to see over a year later and there are still horrendous issues with the network. I can get more consistent and higher speeds from a tethered 3G smart phone. |

 | Re: [Tampa] 10% subscription speed for weeks and extreme latency Have you tried to do speed tests hard wired with computer connecting directly to the modem ? if speeds are good maybe your router needs to be replaced ?? Just Call BHN make an appointment for a cable guy to come out and check your signal levels and look at your modem. If they see any speed issues they will fix it via changing splitters , changing cable connectors and checking up on the pole. -- Bakersfield Region Taft CA Brighthouse Customer Since 2003 |

 | I've used different coaxial cables and I've been in different locations. The speed is still an issue regardless of whether I'm using wifi or am plugged into router via ethernet. Trace route shows latency between road runner servers, it's not on my end. I guess I'll call them again and see what happens. |

 | Take the router out of the equation for now lol Plug the Ethernet cord coming from your Cable Modem And plug that cord DIRECTLY into your Computers LAN port. unplug your modem for 15 seconds then plug it back in. Wait a few seconds for the modem to sync now reboot your computer THEN do speed tests -- Bakersfield Region Taft CA Brighthouse Customer Since 2003 |
