Normal for heat pump in heat mode?I have had heat pumps for my heating and AC for a long time. However, I have never taken the time to notice the temperature of the larger copper line in the past.
For my current heat pump, it is now 32 degrees Fahrenheit outside and the larger line will almost burn you when you touch it. THe smaller line is only luke warm. I am guessing that the difference in temperature means that most of the heat is being transferred to inside the house. |

Not a heat pump guy, but for cooling mode, the small line is hot, and the large line is cool. So the reverse should be true for heating. Dunno how hot it should be, prolly 140-160 isnt out of line.

Yep totally normal, as you said its drawing heat from the outside air and bringing it inside. Blower pulls air over the A coil and then the small line takes the now cooler refrigerant back outisde. In the summer the cycle is opposite it takes warm air from inside and takes it outside, big line is cold, small line is warm. |

That's exactly how it works... My large line is now 110F with 20F outside. |
