[Hockey] [2013] Ottawa Senators Season Thread

First game Jan 19th at 3:00pm in Winnipeg.

Every year I buy Centre Ice because I am out of market.. this year I will not be doing that (my protest for the lockout) but Centre Ice is free until the end of Hanuary

I'm seriously considerg the $50 NHL Gamcentre live subscription this year. I should be able to stream every game that is blacked out with Unblock-us. I don't have cable tv so this seems like the best alternative to using low quality free streams.

Should be an exciting year. Sens need to play their all offence style and maybe good things will happen.

Don't be so hasty now... it could be worth a laugh.

I attended a couple of the open practices earlier this week, and watching this team I had a couple of thoughts:

1) they are fast
2) they are young
3) they work hard (couldn't do anything but that with coach MacLean)
4) we have the best goalie controversy ever: we have 3 good options
5) blue line might be young but not inexperienced
6) lots of players who were over in Europe means good start for a lot of them
7) lots more up-and-coming talent in the system for coming years (Ceci, Noesen, Hoffman, Prince, Stone, etc)

GO SENS GO!

LOL...you beat me to that one. Kuba isn't going to be the +/- and assist machine he was last year as he's not playing with the current Norris trophy winner anymore.

Sens won the season opener 4-1... looked sloppy for much of the 1st and the 2nd..but brought it together and won the game

Karlsson with 1g 2a

And he said it wasn't his best game, and MacLean said he could have played better.

Now, I know it's a bit too early for this to really mean anything, but it's still something I like to see:

No, it's not true. He wasn't thrown out; he was escorted to an interview with SportsNet's Ian Mendes.

Full story from Ian Mendes (includes video): »www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2013/01/···enators/

Tweets from @ian_mendes :

I want to emphasize something on the Paul MacLean stunt double: He was not kicked out of the game and escorted out by security.

I know it looked that way on one of the broadcast shots, but that's not what happened.

Aha. That clears up. Thanks.

Looks like even CNN apologized when they said he was thrown out.

Tonight's game was a bit sloppy at times, but the Senators got the job done. A goal from Phillips pretty much guarantees a win (Senators are 47-11-4 when the Big Rig scores), and tonight was no exception. A beauty of as steal by EK65 who then walked in and picked the corner glove side on Theodore, and Spezza gets and empty netter to seal the win. 3-0, with 2 goals against.....I'll take it!

2 goal lead is the hardest one to keep in hockey, or so they say. This game was boring in the 1st with the Bolts trap-trap-traping, blew up in the 2nd, and the 3rd was pretty good.

Still, 3-1 isn't bad when the last three have been in four days.

i have been talking about hockey pretty much daily at work as i am in an office pool...what a crap shoot this year is...Philly, LA, NYR and the Pens all shitting the bed to start the season.

i said at work that teams loaded with decent young talent will likely do well in this shortened compressed season...my gut feeling is a team like Edmonton could be very hard to play against in the second half...when some of the "older" teams are running on fumes later in the season, these young "kids" will still have plenty of get up and go.

Don't forget the Caps with new coach Adam Oates.........they look terrible and Ove doesn't look happy.........1 assist.

i didn't even pick Ovi this year...he was my first pick last year, and he had a bad year...i decide to play it safe this year and pick Lundqvist 1st this year, and that powerhouse team can barely beat a Timbits squad...i just can't catch a break in my pools.

Big test tomorrow night against the Penguins.

I think the Sens need to alternate resting Gonchar and Philips with this reduced schedule. Philips in particular looked very worn out after the back to back games in Florida. He is still and NHL caliber player, but he needs to be used more intelligently.

2-1 SO loss against the Pens. Anderson wasn't spectacular during the shootout, but tough to place blame on him when the shooters are Neal, Crosby and Malkin.

Only real complaint for the play is they're still taking a lot of dumb penalties. If the Sens had stayed out of the box a bit more, it might not have gone to the shootout.

Alfie back in, but Spezza is out. Mika Zibanejad makes his season debut tonight.
