 | [Qwest] TP-Link TD-W8960N My CenturyLink service was just activated yesterday, and I'm trying to connect with the TP-Link TD-W8960N modem. I've called/chatted with CL 3-4 times and have repeatedly been told the same thing, that my account is DHCP, not PPPoE, and therefore there is no username or password. My problem is that there is no way to select DHCP for the WAN settings in this modem. I tried calling the company but they were of no help, telling me that, contrary to what I've been independently told by multiple people at CL and what I've read online, that DHCP is for coax/cable only, and DSL is only PPPoE. I'm beginning to think this modem is only compatible with CL PPPoE accounts, and I'm going to have to return it. I have an Actiontec GT701D as well, and am about to try it, but was wondering if anyone has any advice. Here are the available settings for the TP-Link modem:
VPI: 8 (according to CL) VCI: 35 (according to CL) WAN Link Type: PPPoE, PPPoA, IPoE, IPoA, Bridge Encapsulation Mode: LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING, VC/MUX
CL also told me Multiplexing = LLC-based and Encapsulation = Enet Encap (Sometimes referred to as Bridged), which leads me to believe the LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING is the correct option for encapsulation.
The ADSL light on the modem is on, indicating some sort of connection, and it seems to have connected at least briefly at some point, as it shows a download and upload speed which seem right for my connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | | |
| | OK, I figured it out (finally), so for anybody else with this issue, I had to select IPoE and LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING. Speeds seem about right, actually a little slow but I kind of expected that, tho not sure if there's anything I can tweak in the settings to improve them. I was worried at first because even though everything showed me as connected through the modem, and at first speed tests came back good, they slowed way down. Turned out I was somehow apparently connected via my phone still, though I've no idea how. | |
