Does this only apply to the development version? I ask because I've had absolutely zero problems getting 7.0.28 to install on any OS I've tried so far (Windows XP, Windows 7 x86/x64, Server 2008/R2, Server 2012). I do have to manually install the AMD OpenCL app for GPU on Server 2012 (and possibly 2008/R2) but that's it.

This applies to any version of BOINC.

Try making your server 2008 as domain controller and BOINC will not install.

A domain controller yeah I can see that, file and folder permissions are greatly locked down on that setup. Fortunately all my DC's run as virtual machines so I just run BOINC on the host or in a separate VM of it's own. That said, even on domain joined servers (not DCs) I've yet to have a problem doing a standard install. But, just because I've yet to run into an issue doesn't mean others won't have issues. Big thumbs up on the detailed instructions
