Land Rover----Range Rover---Anyone Have Experience

With these SUVs? I have been browsing want ads looking for cheap 4 wheel drives and it seems that they are dirt cheap for older models.

Are they a huge headache to repair? Are they junk?
Bodies are rust free down here and if I got a year or 2 and 10--20000 miles out of one without severe problems I'd buy one and drive it back to Ontario in the spring.
I like the yellow one but the second one only has 80000 miles.

They are not the most reliable vehicles but they are certainly capable off-road vehicles.

They're usually rated dead last in reliability reports, or very close to last.

But they are near the top of the lists. . . for depreciation.

Hence the "dirt cheap" prices.

Well if it runs for a couple of months, its a break even. First major repair and your looking at more than purchase price as good luck find parts for a SUV that was owned by bwm for only 6 years ( 1994-2000 ) or any one that has a clue how to work on them

There is one user here who has had extensive experience working on them. I can't remember who at the moment.

I wouldn't touch one unless I got it for free and had plans (plus free parts) to do a complete drivetrain swap from a more reliable brand.

I'd rather have a Chevette Diesel.

I believe that the engines are pretty reliable as they're a pretty simple and older GM design that's used in LOTS of vehicles. The engine is just one part to consider though...

I have been looking online and they are loved or hated. Seems to be a list of common problems and expensive fixes. If I can find one for 1000--1500 I may grab it and take my chances. I want it for off road use more than daily driving.
