I'm guessing the reason for this is it would take long to change channel if you were switching between 720p and 1080i and 480i channels.

Follow up question Is it 720p for Bell ExpressVU as well? In which case, does setting it to 1080i lower the quality because of conversion?

The native feed Bell uses is 720p.

If you select 1080i on the receiver, the receiver up converts the signal (the image at this point, not the feed) to 1080i.

I prefer the look of 720p personally, even on my 65" 1080p Viera Plasma

Well, according to wikipedia, you might be right. apparently that changed from 1080 to 720 during the transition in 2011. shame.

Because you have your Bell receiver set to output in 1080i.

The receiver converts the signal from its native 720p to 1080i when you have this selected. You can change this by pressing MENU - 6 - 7 on the Bell remote.

Nevertheless, the native Bell feed is 720p.

Your sure about that? Or are you just reading what your TV is reporting to you when you turn it on?

I don't think there are many 1080i broadcast networks other than SOME of the major us broadcasters, and CBC which does 1080i (but only people with an antenna can get iirc)
