[OS X] Mac can't find Bluetooth device -Please help.

Just got a JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker today. My iPhone 5 found the device right away and works flawlessly. Zero issues there.

My Mac laptop...another story. It cannot find the JBL at all. I tried turning BT off on the iPhone thinking maybe it was interfering. Tried all the easy tricks such as rebooting everything.

My Mac is about 4 years old running OSX 10.6.8.

I tried googling this problem and did not get very far. So here I am.

Any ideas? Is the protocol used on the JBL not backward compatible with my older Mac?

I really got the speaker to use with the iPhone, and it's not a big heartbreak if it will not work on the Mac. But it would be nice!

Any help is appreciated.

THANK YOUUUUU!
