 | [VA] Net keeps going in and out for a min at a time I'm in Northern Va and my net is just randomly keeps going in and out, it does it over about an hour at a time and drops every one to three mins for about a minute at a time.
Its silly frustrating, here is my log: »i.imgur.com/0c6xgDm.png
I have Cox High Speed Internet Ultimate and this modem: Model Name: SB6120 Vendor Name: Motorola Firmware Name: SB612X-1.0.5.1-SCM00-NOSH Boot Version: PSPU-Boot 1.0.0.4m1
Noticed the build of the firmware is from 2010, maybe I need a firmware upgrade??
I have done the following, removed the router so I am directly connected to the modem, tried w/ three different machines so I know something is up w/ either the modem or the line. Went outside and physically inspected the line coming into the house, no cuts, bends nothing odd that I can see, the line then goes into the ground at the end of my yard, the box everything comes into is well protected from water.
Help!? |

|
 | B/c of that 0 valued upstream? Is it an issue I can't address? |
|
 | reply to akrazyassho I was having a similar problem a week or two ago. What ended up fixing it was calling cox and having them re-provision the modem. |
|
 | reply to akrazyassho I was also having the same issue, but signals were fine. Replaced my modem and issue has stopped. |

|
 | So based on what people are telling me its an issue with the ISP or the line coming into the house?
I just ordered a new modem (SB6141) and I am hoping this resolves the issue as it happens sporadically and have had a tech come out only to find "nothing is wrong".
On that note when the net acts up I can't access the modems homepage, it doesn't restart but it just times out when trying to reach it, and yes it does this on three different systems connected to it directly. |

Like you said, you can't access the modems homepage...It's the modem. Your signal levels are getting a little high though, btw. This is the 3rd time, yes 3rd, time I have had to replace my modem (did it on Saturday). For some reason, they crap out doing weird things like this every year or two. Intermittent connectivity, cannot access the modem page even when connected, etc.
Of course I look and make sure it's not something else like Signal issue or Router issue, doing a direct PC connect, etc.
Only thing that has fixed it is a new modem for me....each...and...every...time. -- ~~Chris~~

| Hey, just a "Hey, me too!" reply.
I've been using Cox HSI and I'm on my 3rd modem. They just get flaky and when I can't stands it no more I get the new model. The signal power levels I'm seeing are usually in the higher end of the range too.
I remember reading and white paper, years ago, citing the lifespan of the transducers in the cable modems as 3 years, give or take. I've aso seen reports of bad batches of cable modems that die well before that lifespan, but still outside warranty. I think reliability and lifepan have gotten better. Each of my cable modems has lasted longer than the previous one.
IME When all else fails, and you suspect the modem.. then it probably is the modem. -- Cox Preferred HSI~SB6120~Grandstream HT502~E4500 OTA (...and proud of it!) VOIPo |
