[Cable] Upstream no longer bonding

So today I was experiencing my TekSavvy cable internet dropping every other minute. I power cycled all the equipment (SB6121 modem, WRT610N router) and it was still happening.

So I went to the cable outlet I am using, took out the two screws and I found that F-connector on the cable inside running up the wall into the jack, is entirely loose, leaving the cable run lose into the jack and it just comes off with the slight bit of movement.

I'm pretty sure I'm SOL here, I'll have to call Rogers, and they'll ding me $100 or more for the visit.

I googled around and it seems it's pretty straight forward to buy compression F-pin ends and the compression tool and remake the end myself. But its after 5pm on a Sunday so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

For now I just put the cable back on with the lose jack. I've got internet but the LEDs on the modem are weird. The downstream LED is solid blue indicating downstream channel bonding but the upstream LED is solid green, meaning its not channel bonding.

The internet is working but as far as I know, I should see bonding on both downstream and upstream.

Here's what it looks like on the modem's web gui:

Should I be worried? I'm going to by the compression tool and ends tomorrow, should solve my problem but I don't now if the unbonded upstream channel will go away or not.

1) What cable profile are you on? I'm not sure if all of them should have upstream bonding or only the higher speed ones...

2) I think your downstream power levels are out of line....Mine are at 0 across the board.

I'm on 28/1 in London, Ontario, is that what you mean by profile?

Can't remember what my power levels were before, I think between -8 and 8 is optimal but -15 to 15 is acceptable. I know I've seen them above -8 before.

This is my speedtest atm:

I had this happen a while back. Went from 4x to 1x for no apparent reason. After a few days it went back to 4x upstream...it was just Rogers messing around. I would bet this will reverse itself in the next week or two, and I wouldn't worry too much as long as your connection remains good.

Hmm ok. Well the service is functional right now. Aside from an F connector mising atm on inside half of my coax outlet.

Will be fixing that tomorrow.

I'd be worried about instability with the 57 dBmV upstream power. That's pretty high! Back many years ago when my upstream power was that high, I was losing sync quite regularly.

Yeah, none of your stats are very good there.

33db SNR is lowish, -10db is a bit low but okay if other stats are good (which they're not), 57dbmv is poor for upstream power, and you're getting a fair number of errors there.

See how it is after you replace the connector.

Your upstream power level is very poor, which is why there are bonding issues and generally you should be getting frequent disconnects as well.

Open a ticket with TSI and get them to send a Rogers tech over, so they do whatever is necessary to fix this.

I had the exact issue, well sort of.

I had 4 channel upstream bonding but 1 or two of the channels would go into aborted status and that would make the connection almost useless. I could reboot my modem and sometimes it would come back at good sync but usually it still had issues or it would fail a few minutes later.

I opened a ticket with Teksavvy and Rogers came to look at it and they said there was corrosion on the line and it would have to be replaced. It took a month to get rogers to actually do anything but the first thing they did was take away my upstream bonding and that made the link stable. A few days later they replaced my line and I've been great since.

Call Teksavvy and have them open a line issue ticket with Rogers. Your upstream power shouldn't be more than 52dB and yours is 57.

As for your light pattern, with full 4x4 bonding... it should be

Power |Green (solid)
Receive |Blue (solid)
Send |Blue (solid)
Online |Green (solid)
Link |Blue (flashing) with activity.

Alright so I took the advice of some of you and went to the Direct Support forums to open up a ticket about this before repairing the coax termination myself.

Still ongoing on that front, Rogers has already came back once saying "Modem online", their way of saying "nothing's wrong". My modem signal stats were tame for 2 days before they went bad again and I experienced 3 back to back disconnections today. So while I wait for Rogers to possible say "nothing wrong" again (the TekSavvy folk have been very helpful though), decided to try to see what I could do.

Original coax termination as I found it a few months after moving in:

The last image is how I have left it connected for a month now do the lose causing the cable to come out of the outlet:

Now after spending $20 + tax on a compression crimper and some compression f connectors:

Signal stats:

Everything is ok except the ping on the server for the game I play trippled now. Waiting to see if that's related or a separate issue now.

Still wouldn't mind a visit from Rogers to check the outlet since the tech will be experience and have better tools (I had to make do with a wire stripper not really well suited for coax).

Stats after the Rogers tech came by:

Can't have asked for a better result. Even the tech that came said I made the better choice of going to TekSavvy and saving money haha.

Stable 4x4 bonding, where as before it was switching erratically between 4x4 and 4x1 and causing disconnects. Thanks for all the help folks, learned to terminate my own coax ends as well.

I think acceptable SNR and Power levels should be added to a FAQ here somewhere if its not already. Just my 2 cents. (The TSI FAQ in general needs to be updated)
