Stuck with the worst service ever

I've had Xplornet for 2 years and can't wait for the day it becomes my X Xplornet. But it's all I have. Every bit of rain, light or hard we lose connection. Sometimes the speed is slower than dial-up. To update the computer I have to bring it to a techy to do the updates for me. They told me they were sending one of their tech guys to check it out and then cancelled the order again as soon as they got off the phone with me. Shame on them praying on the helpless.

If you've had your connection for two years, you're not connected through one of the two new the new HTS satellite services. I'd get in touch with your local dealer a make the switch if you don't have access to good wifi, fibre, cable or dsl. HTS works OK for me most of the time.

I was talking to Xplornet and they said the new satellites are not available in my area and they don't know when they will be. I signed up for Netflix and had to quit again because it would take a full day to watch a movie.

Re: Stuck with the worst service ever

Where are you located? The two HTS satellites cover much of southern Canada. You can also join in the conversations on my Facebook tech page 'woodlane.ca'. I watch Netflix many evenings. Takes about 40 seconds to start up over HTS then runs fine without any buffering. Watched 'Titanic the other evening without any buffering. My next door neighbour had the same problems with wifi in poor weather, and moved to HTS after seeing my setup. I find HTS works almost as well as satellite TV in poor weather. The only complaint I have lately about HTS is some evening slowdowns that have affected my Skyping in the last week and having to mouse click a couple of times occasionally for the click to 'take'. Could be tied in with satellite latency. I would not recoomend satellite for any online gamers because of the 800ms latency (delay).

I live near St. John's Newfoundland. A 3 minute video buffers all the way through it. I can watch 5 to 10 seconds at a time. I am hoping to move back to Ontario but I have to check out the employment situation there first. Hopefully I'll get high speed then.

Re: Stuck with the worst service ever

Our nextdoor neighbour had wifi through someone other than xplornet. Their wifi slowed down or quit in wet weather also. HTS satellite works better. I guess we'll have to keep at xplornet to increase their coverage of Canada with HTS. I'll email my contacts for you.

Ok thanks. It is really appreciated.

You must have wifi, not HTS satellite. Wifi is affected more by wet / snowy weather.
