okay i wanted to tell my thoughts on the whole remove my router idea.. its flawed as it works now after 12 hours down.. it was a dns issue with mediacom.. plain and simple..
my router hasnt been powered down or reconfigured
the tracert i gave was recieving the 2nd hop at the 10. on mediacoms end..
glimmer helped create the same issue (thanks) if you ask him he will say it works now too i bet..

You could use a public DNS like google's DNS servers instead of the default mediacom ones, and they'd probably be more reliable.
Google: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 |

I'm curious how this looks like a DNS issue to you. C:\Users\iconz>tracert www.mediacomcable.com
Tracing route to www.mediacomcable.com [74.84.103.140] over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 2 ms 2 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 10 ms 12 ms 18 ms 10.132.42.1 3 * * * Request timed out. 4 * * * Request timed out. 5 * * * Request timed out. 6 * * * Request timed out. 7 * * * Request timed out. 8 * * 10.132.42.1 reports: Destination net unreachable.
See that in bold up there? In that whole traceroute, all DNS does is convert www.mediacomcable.com to 74.84.103.140, which was successful, otherwise you'd have gotten 'www.mediacomcable.com... unknown host'. The fact that you couldn't get there had nothing to do with the DNS. It was a network issue. |
|
|
network issue or dns issue either way the issue is it wont connect to there site.. both could be used and the same thing accomplished.. as its mediacom's connection to the internet..or mediacom's sites dns is unreachable.. either way tier2 has to have a look.. not here to fight with people thanks for clearing it up tho.. |

I am unable to reach mediacomcable.com on any device in my network (desktop, laptop, phone). If I go use my phone without the wifi connection I am able to reach it. |

I am still looking for examples of this issue. Please message me with ping and traceroute results to mediacomcable.com and also include the results from 'ipconfig /all.' Our NOC/Tier 2 needs these while a PC is connected directly to your modem. You can also send this to socialmediateam@mediacomcc.com Thanks! |

I've been unable to reach mediacomcable.com for several days now. Instead of asking for customer traceroutes, have you ever thought about hiring one employee who knows a little something about routing? |

Instead of asking for customer traceroutes, have you ever thought about hiring one employee who knows a little something about routing? There could be several things that cause an issue like this by providing trace routes it allows the person trying to resolve the issue to have a starting point. The same thing can be said about taking a car to a mechanic and saying its not working correctly. The mechanic would need more information and ask you some questions to find out what is causing the issue. Mediacom probably has multiple IP ranges going through several pieces of backbone equipment and there could be an issue at any of the devices. by providing the trace route you are providing information needed to narrow down the issue and resolve the issue quickly. |

Are you 100% sure its nothing with your computer? I had an issue where my desktop was unable to reach amazon.com by either web page or pinging, but I was able to reach it from my laptop. |

no its a real problem it happened to me for 3 days. tracert would stop at the 10. addy. I was not making it past the first mediacom hop. |

jcleverly UnhappyMCer and GLIMMER,
Repost from me earlier in this thread: I am still looking for examples of this issue. Please message me with ping and traceroute results to mediacomcable.com and also include the results from 'ipconfig /all.' Our NOC/Tier 2 needs these while a PC is connected directly to your modem and need your computer to be booted into safemode with networking.
You can also send this to socialmediateam@mediacomcc.com
Thanks! |

said by MediacomChad:Our Tier-2 Department is aware of this issue working to restore it. So what is happening about fixing this? When this thread first started I was able to reach www.mediacomcable.com The last couple of days www.mediacomcable.com is unreachable. I am unable to get to the mediacom support forums at all. Obviously there is a problem here. |

you need me to do your NOC's work? Ever heard of send a tech into the field to test this? Mine works fine now but if it does it again I will get you all the info you asked for. |

We have had techs test this in the field but have been unable to recreate the issue. Due to this, we will need the information requested in previous posts. It is not our intention to make customers take these extra steps, but since we are unable to recreate this issue, we need further information. Thanks for your patience! |
