xur17	xur17 Member 2013-Jan-22 8:15 pm The channels are definitely there in clear QAM, they are just hard to find for some reason. A few of them show up after each scan, but none of them have any useful scheduling info or anything, so I have to manually link them to channels. What program are you using? I'm using mythtv.

jfkriz join:2012-12-14 Loveland, OH	jfkriz Member 2013-Jan-23 12:15 am I've wanted to do similar, but unfortunately, depending on what your Fioptics installation looks like and how it is provisioned, the option to connect a cable-ready TV or any other QAM tuner directly may not even be available. See this post for some info on my installation. In short, mine is FTTH with IPTV, and as such, there is no RF signal anywhere in the entire setup. If yours looks like this, then that would explain why there are no channels showing up when you scan. I talked to Bell about this, and even pointed them to their own FAQ page that clearly states that you can tune basic channels without a STB, but was told that new installations (at least new FTTH/FTTP installations) would be strictly IPTV. I have been successful at getting the unencrypted multicast streams setup in MythTV, and I can have up to 3 of those recording at once without any issue. More than 3, and they all start coming up completely garbled, but this is a limitation of my internal network's hardware (an old router that doesn't handle multicast traffic properly...)

Which channels are unencrypted for you? The only channels I get via clearQAM are the channels I can get over the air via ATSC.

I could get these OTA as well, but I don't have an antenna in the house, so being able to record right from Bell's streams (that I'm paying for...) is nice.

True, I really don't want to record much beyond what is on the main channels, but it would be nice to be able to. I suppose it's nice to know that when I move out, I won't really have a need to get cable since none of the channels will work with my dvr system. Right now I'm using one tuner (OTA only) with an antenna, and the other is connected to my cable. Basically I can record 2 copies of each channel simultaneously since the ones available via QAM are the same as my OTA channels. Out of curiosity, what dvr system are you using this with?

With Time-Warner, I had a HDHomerun dual-tuner to record 2 unencrypted RF channels, plus a Hauppauge HD-PVR hooked up to the cable box. Now the HDHomerun is useless (until I break down and put an antenna in the attic...), but I can record 3 unencrypted IPTV streams, plus one from the set-top box.
