[connectivity] continued dropped lines and slow connections

I have had Verizon DSL for many years and never had any major issues. The past week and a half have been horrible. I always had a steady 2.8M connection, and stayed connected for days on end.

Now, it is all I can do to stay connected, and when I do get connected, the speeds are horribly slow. Currently connected at 704KB. There does not seem to be a particular time of the day that is more prone to issues, Nothing has changed with my computer or my lines, phone, etc.

I have a Westell 6100 modem. I don't know if it helps anybody, but the Transceiver stats are:

Transceiver Revision: 01.00.09.00
Vendor ID Code: 4
Line Mode: G.DMT Mode
Data Path: Interleaved
Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 704 544
Margin (dB) 6.0 10.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 63.5 31.5
Transmit Power (dBm) 14.7 10.8

Verizon support has not been any help. My connections is almost unusable at this speed. Even Youtube videos are problematic at this speed. There seems to be a lot of people having similar problems with Verizon lately.

hmmm, never heard of a line just dropping from working great to acting like crap. in this instance, i will not calculate distance based on attenuation, since that is likely off.

looking at stats, your line is, well, to state the obvious, doing horribly. since you say you haven't changed anything in the house, gonna rule that out.

suggestions to follow (in this order):
-unplug every device from the wall jacks. this may seem odd, but maybe something just decided to go bad all of a sudden. see if line stats improve. if not;
-get verizon to send you a new modem. sometimes they go bad for no apparent reason. if new modem doesn't help;
-call verizon, and insist you need a tech sent out, because if the above doesn't fix it, then there IS a wiring issue.

if the regular department keeps saying nothing is wrong, call 1-866-376-3216, and enter 0 for extension. note: this department may require a little nagging to get them to pull up your account, but once they do, they are generally good about getting issues fixed.
