Re: Comcast HSI Internet only Price

If that's accurate, then that sucks. How is it possible that by 2002 ameritech wasn't a major DSL player when Comcast entered Chicago?

Not disputing you, but I'd think Philly or Boston, DC/Baltimore, would be bigger markets than Chicago.

This is really getting OT...... Ameritech had some disastrous investments in the 90's which put them on cash lockdown mode in order to groom for a sale right when DSL was taking off- late 90's~2000.

My town of Lincolnshire IL in the middle of Chicago suburbia, has begged for DSL for well over a decade but never got it. Because of this, Comcast HSI is in >80% of households here.

The SF Bay Area is a pretty big one for Comcast too. Sacramento would have to be as well, though smaller than the Bay Area of course.

They share chicago with rcn, I would be surprised if chicago is actually comcasts biggest market area. Phillie used to be there biggest market and they didnt share it with anyone. They do share it with fios now tho so who knows. Im pretty sure LA has comcast and i would expect LA To be the biggest now since fios came to phillie.

Comcast has a much smaller presence in the L.A. area than in the Bay Area. Time Warner and Charter are the biggies there.

I have Comcast HSI only and have had for quite some time.

With the new HSI increase that just went thru ... I pay $64.95 a month for 20/2 Performance Tier. I own my own modem so I avoid THAT extortion each month.

Whatever tier you get, if you do not subscribe to their crappy cableTV, you WILL pay an extra $15.00 a month "I don't want your crappy cableTV" tax.

Comcast advertizes this $15.00 a month fee as a "discount" if you DO subscribe to their crappy cableTV ... but in my area, qualifying basic cable is $20.00 a month, because the local franchise & local county government in my area has been in collusion with Comcast to keep prices high for the last 40 years since they get a percentage of EACH Comcast customer fee. It's criminal, AFAIC.

Plan on $65.00 a month and you'll be damn close.

Hmm, I live in Bloomingdale and here we have both U-Verse and Comcast HSI, some areas of Glendale H have WOW. I have U-Verse, before U-Verse I had DSL available. I had Comcast HSI also. Speedwise, they are almost identical in price. I have paid to U-Verse only $25 per month for 12 months for 12/1.5 package but this month its expiring and going up to $48 per month.

When I had RCN in Chicago and Mediacom in Iowa, they both crawled with speeds at peak times but both have improved as time passed.
