West Henrietta, NY | With wireless there are a whole lot of potential problems that get added that could affect throughput. Throwing in a VPN will add a few more as well.
That said, you need to test four scenarios and compare relative performance between them:
- VPN+wifi
- VPN+wired
- wifi+direct
- wired+direct |

that's the thing, regular web transfers without vpn are a consistent 10 megs on wifi and wired. it's only the vpn that seems to slow down... and only on wifi.. |

What's doing the OpenVPN? Spare box? If so, how's the CPU load looking?
Just for chuckles get something like IPERF to test throughput on it and see what kind of numbers you get.
