if you only need to connect one device to a some cell network, you might as well get a dongle. i'd imagine it would be cheaper than a mifi hotspot.
the hotspot is useful because it lets you connect more people to the internet. it has the issue of requiring a battery, however. it may or may not be usable while it's plugged in.
