[WIN7] Will there ever be a Win 7 SP2?

Since Windows 8 is now pre-installed with almost on every personal desktops and notebooks now, will MS ever roll out Win 7 SP2?

Thanks

So far Microsoft has said they are NOT going to do a sp2.

Considering the amount of work that has to go into applying multiple updates at once and the issues they have had in the past with large service packs I suspect that is true.

On the other hand I really do like update roll ups and service packs as they make doing fresh installs so much faster. I hope they change their mind.

2000 SP4
XP SP3
Vista SP2
7 SP1

I guess Windows 8 wont have any service packs at all and there wont be a Windows 9.

Re: [WIN7] Will there ever be a Win 7 SP2?

I agree with what Aranarth See Profile has said. Everything I have read points to the fact that Microsoft will not be issuing Service Pack 2 for Windows 7.

I also agree that having a "security patch roll-up" would be nice. I just did a re-install of my system (Windows 7 x64 Enterprise) a few days ago, and I had to install 116 updates, which was just shy of 1 GB in size. Total time of download and install was just under 60 minutes.

If there was a way to have that in something I could download ONCE from Microsoft that would be great.

I don't mind the time it takes to install. I just don't like to keep downloading the same updates over and over again each time I re-install the OS.

That is too bad there won't be an SP2 .

What about DirectX 11.1? Will Windows 7 get that at least?

I'm thinking it won't. The rumor is Microsoft will release paid updates every year like Apple used to. Look out for "Windows Blue".

I keep asking will there ever be a Windows 7 SP1, as I've been downloading update after update for the last four hours now and am STILL at no service packs. Another 430MB (137 updates) coming in now, but all of them are security patches. :-(

No point in asking - the answer doesn't change just because we want it to.

(If by some miracle Microsoft announced a service pack, we'd certainly have a thread about it from someone in this forum)

As long a s the security updates continue, that is all that matters, most are not on 56k dial up modems like they were with XP SP1 and SP2 for that matter.

I remember installing SP2 off a magazine CD, not good looking back, but it was how it was.

Sarcasm or just not knowing what you are talking about? SP1 for 7 has been out for quite some time
