21 to 23Mbps is that normal?

I just recently singed up for their 28up, 1 down, and 300 cap cable package. When I first got the service I notice that the speed was really fast, faster then what I had signed up for but as of late is now a bit slower, it hover between 21 to 23. Now is that normal for cable? Should I be concerned?

Try resetting your modem and your router. Those 2 are usually the case of slow speed.

Like unplugging and plugging them back in?

Do a hard reset. (factory reset)

There is a reset button at the back of the modem.

Press it and hold it for 15 seconds at least.

Maybe there is local node congestion as well?

@OP

No it is not normal and 99% of the time, you should be getting exactly 28mbps download, or possibly even faster...

Let me try plugin my laptop directly into the modem and see what speed I get then because I'm concerned that it could be my router? I have a linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT and I have noticed on wifi it's way slower, so right now my laptop and my xbox are connected via wired connection. If that's the case can anyone suggest a good router? I've had this one (well this model, I bricked my last one updating DD-WRT so I bought the same again) for a while and maybe I need to get a new one.

Router is your problem, that'd be my 99.9% guess!

I just picked up an ASUS-RT66N - very awesome router.

Well I can safely say that it's the router

Going directly to the modem it's way faster then the 28Mbps I'm supposed to get.

If you are looking for replacement router, Rocca have been showing off lately that he got ASUS-RT66N, get that! It's the best choice!

I have the netgear wndr3400, excellent as well. Provides very good wireless coverage with the G range. Router is on the 2nd floor, and I get about 3 or so bars in the basement out of 5.
Doesn't have the gigabit port though.

It's definitely a little more expensive, but I suspect it will last me a good long while, and it's been rock-solid. The wireless range on it is incredible as well.

It is expensive but good choice. I have Linksys E4200v2 which is better in terms of hardware specs and I like it. I would choose Asus as well if I were out for a new router and mainly because of custom firmware!

Shibby.

That's a good choice too. I like the Toastman builds because of Incoming QOS.

Why bring up hardware specs when the 66U outperforms it in every catagory.

Simply put the N66U is bar none the best router I have ever tested. Get full 300mbps in my entire 1400 sq ft house on the 2.4ghz band.

Sorry if I sounded snippy, I have a friend who constantly tries go tell me the 4200v2 and now 4500 is a better all around piece of hardware. I'm curious to see results from the new 4500 compared to the N66U or even the new ac66U
