The FAQ related to this (»Site FAQ »Modification of Default Forum Style) really needs to be updated as there is no "theme-override" dropdown menu anymore as shown in the screen shots and the "this page" link in the very first sentence doesn't go anywhere useful.

Thanks, it's been reworked to be useful again.

I had at least 2, maybe 3, that were 'kept'. They were there a week or three ago, and they're not there now. That doesn't in itself mean that this problem was the cause, but that does make the problem suspect as far as I'm concerned. They were 'system' IMs if that matters. Will system IMs disappear on their own within a short amount of time?

They shouldn't. I have system messages going back to 2003.

edit: This link should pull up all the system messages you've received: »/instant/0

The link shows 2--one from today and one from last month, which leaves 3 that I know of as "missing" (and, no, I don't delete stuff--wouldn't bother to).

Edit: Since yesterday, one of the two--the older one--has disappeared. Seems like an ongoing problem.

You can go here: »/speak/themepr···/default and click on the different themes to preview them and find the one you were using.

That did it! Thanks! Of all things my theme was 'default'.

2 or 3 were kept, you found 2. So either none are missing or 1 is?

I still have all my kept IM's, 54 pages of them, dating back 514w3d.

Of the three missing messages, were they from yesterday or further back?

I kept the first one I got on day one (12/6) (related to this: »Typo in theme's code ). I kept the second I received 10 days later (when I went from level 0 to level 1--"thanks for visiting regularly..."), and I think--not completely sure--I also kept the one from somewhere around going to level 2 ("give us a review..."). I had 6 (plus or minus 1) system messages before today.

The only thing I can think of is that the "event triggered messages" (which must link to profile data, that was subsequently reset) would basically be pulled back. The review messages for example get triggered when a certain event occurs, and then again as a regular reminder once you've reviewed a company.

I just got a message moments ago asking me to update the companies I've reviewed, so the system may be playing catch-up.

If anyone lost their "I See People" settings which are custom controls for how you view other members in the little box next to their post, this is where you can reset them: »/prefs/seepeople

If you forgot the settings you used there are tons of examples all linked on this page, first post: »"I See People" feature (Examples & Tips)

I didn't lose my settings but some may have.

I can't figure out how to put the link in for minibar icon for postlist/all.

Just visit the page you want to add, and click the little green icon with a plus in the middle:

Thank you!
Also, thanks to FFH5 See Profile

Between the instructions from you guys, I couldn't possibly mess that up! Simple to do. I was trying to make too complicated.

Ahhh....relief as that is fixed. (I also had forgetten that I have the "old placement" (top and bottom) for the minibar but that was easy to fix.

Another thing everyone needs to check is the ticker config, I noticed this afternoon that mine had been disabled. You can look here to change the settings and enable it or disable it: »/prefs/style

My understanding is that the number of members that this affected is relatively small, so the low number of views is understandable.

My expectation is that the number of members who ever modify the site appearance--site style (theme)/minibar--is relatively small. In that sense, "affected" could indeed represent a "small" number. But since we've had no actual explanation of the problem--something of great interest to the affected, it's hard to really judge... one could also say that everyone was affected but only a relative few have noticed(?).

What I'm actually asking is: Did anyone who did have non-default settings for site style and minibar not lose their settings due to this problem?

I sure wish this site would make it possible to permanently delete any blocked IMs WITHOUT having to first see them! (The point of blocking in the first place is that you don't wish to read IMs from a certain member).

The "unread" IMs at the top of every page were from members (mostly NON members and many years INactive accounts members going all the way back to Justin's last IM purge which I think I recall was in 2004). The site was not showing any members where I had blocked IMs from them as my settings got UNremembered by whatever happened yesterday. I clicked on one name I didn't remember at all. It was three previously blocked IMs from a FORMER member back in 2007! The first of the three blocked messages was a series of 4 letter words.
I deleted them. I did not enjoy having to see them before I could delete. Yes, I could ignore reading them carefully but ones that are just nasty four letter words are hard to completely ignore when deleting.

With the other formerly blocked IMs, at the top of the page, I went to the member page for each (most were deactivated accounts from years ago) and reset to block IMs and then the site removed the IM message at the top of the page for these accounts. There were a couple of former members who had removed their accounts entirely yet there were IMs from them up at the top of the page. There was no way to reblock IMs from them.

There really needs to be a way to delete all blocked IMs without having to show them first!

I am very grateful though that none of the IMs that I have from members not blocked (the vast majority of members over the years) are all still there. Some of them contain really useful information that I refer to frequently so I am happy I did not lose any of them.

Yes. It appears to have only affected users who were active during a relatively short time frame.

That makes sense. I was trying to upload screenshots when it happened and the site kept saying "got 100%" but then when I would re-preview they would not be there so I tried several more times and then got 504 and 500 errors. So, I guess I was inviting problems by continuing to try to upload the screenshots.

I agree with this... I've had the flashing IM message blinking for two weeks since I knew it was from a member here I care not to talk to.. since it got on my nerves I just opened it and clicked ok and went back to browsing the site.

Oh boy....the blocked IMs keep showing up at the top of the page...so this problem is NOT over!

I can renew the page and the blocked IMs disappear from the top. LESS THAN 30 SECONDS goes by and they reappear.

How do I get them to go away permanently? Some of these are from people who deleted their accounts here YEARS AGO. Others are also ancient IMs but those folks still have deactified accounts here so I was able to reinstate blocks on those IMs but the IMs keep coming back at the top of the page! This means BLOCKING IMS, OR FORUM MESSAGES, OF CERTAIN MEMBERS NO LONGER WORKS.

Please fix this!

EDIT: This also means that if I wanted (I don't) to block Anon forum posts I cannot do so now. My profile is STILL messed up.

Maybe it will help if I logout and login again (I did that earlier but I can do it again and do it on Opera too as it is also running).

They appear to be gone. I think what triggered them was a NEW IM.
