Still no where near 100mbps.

None of the new tiers are 100 - ultimate is 150 however. PM your MAC and I'll take a look at your account - you may have been one of the ones that has something weird on your account and needs to be manually updated.

Yea, I saw this coming. As soon as anyone mentions Caps...

Im still just curios what kind of coaxial compressors he used. Guess Im just a nerd. XD

Heh. The cable is mini RG59 - you can find it pre-assembled with the ends in a number of places. We, being a cable company, make our own, of course.

It isn't supposed to be used for high bandwidth, high frequency digital signals as it is not well shielded (only single - RG6 comes in double or quad shield), but that particular cable is 10 feet or so to our in-lab tap, so it works well enough. Plus, as you noticed, it's a lot more flexible and easier to run where we need it in a cramped lab.

Official line: Use RG6. Everywhere.

Who still uses RG59 and for what purpose?

Optimus2357 was asking what that thin coax cable in the picture at the start of this thread was.

We still have some in our lab for the short connections from the tap into some of the test cable modems.

Oh thanks for the answer. I was hoping maybe it was something new. I have always wondered why the basic design (with improvements) have stayed the same so long. Imagine coaxial with ThermaVolt dielectric insulation, graphite nano-wrap shielding and a ICP core. Were talking cable so thin you could lay it on the wall and paint over it and not even notice. Ahh yes, but it all boils down to cost and compatibility. That's why RJ11 hasn't changed in what..60 years?

@CoxVegas - Thanks for all your hard work on this.

On Ultimate, I'm seeing max. 115/4 to both speedtest.net and test.lvcm.com. Sometimes the 4 is a 3. Should I be seeing more?

You should be getting more. PM me your cable modem's HFC MAC address and I'll take a look to see if something weird is going on.

Why do you think we had to wait so long to do it? We weren't idle on our side, I can tell you that... I still need to hibernate a month or so to catch up on sleep.

Got your PM. Your modem is only 4 downstream channel capable, so you're basically maxing out those channels at 102.95. You'll need to upgrade to an 8x4 DOCSIS 3 modem (6180 or 3010 or similar) to get all the way to 150.

Thanks for looking into it.

Anyone have thoughts on the SB6141? Best Buy seems to stock those.

CoxVegas - Just want to say that I am very happy with the upgrade. Everything is working great and seeing over 150M with my Ultimate level service.

I do have a question - I have a Cisco DPC 3010 modem that is of course using 8x2. Does Cox assign less channels to the those with lower tier packages and keep a few channels only for Ultimate level customers?

We don't distinguish between service tiers for load balancing or channel usage purposes. How exactly the channel assignments and such occur vary market to market, and could vary node by node. Generally any scheme to do so would not make an efficient use of bandwidth on the cable plant, which we have to manage very carefully (remember DOCSIS channels compete with analog TV, digital TV, VOD, etc. etc., and it's all in around 150 channels worth of space.... and the upper 23 can't be used fully as they're so high a lot of receivers (and DOCSIS 2.0 modems) can't tune them.... and we need a COUPLE channels left unallocated for emergency "OMG" situations... and there's a few that are unusable due to noise, regulations, or the like.... it gets awfully tight, awfully quick.

Just a follow-up on the 6141. I got it installed tonight, and my new speeds are:

I feel silly complaining about what is reported as better than 93% of the US, but the up still seems a little weak. I get the same speeds via the router and directly connected. Thoughts?

PM me your new MAC address - that download is looking better, but yeah, your upload is still weird.
