Belkin buys Linksys

I wonder if this will include any ATAs or IP Phones?

I would imagine not.

The sale is said to relate to the Linksys brand, and to home networking.

But Cisco has rebranded those ATA's as Cisco, not Linksys. For example, the Linksys PAP2T is now called the Cisco PAP2T.

The phones were Cisco to begin with.

And Cisco lumps them all under "small business", not "home".

This deal does not seem to amount to much.

Belkin already sells decent routers, now they will sell a few more.

Cisco will be even more focused on business than heretofore.

Nah, Linksys had a line of IP phones before the sale (SPA9xx). (Never mind, didn't realize that Cisco bought Linksys in 2003 -- they ran them for quite a while as separate entity, I guess.) They even had their own little VoIP switch pre-Cisco. But I thought all Linksys products had been re-branded to Cisco. Obviously I'm wrong about that, as a quick check on Cisco's site proves.

According to Belkins press release they're going to treat Linksys as their own entity so, if they keep their word, that's good news.

Belkin good routers?
You must be joking.
Belkin is a joke.

This acquisition will kill Linksys.

I have to agree. I have always viewed them as the wal-mart brand. I have installed quite a few of them over the years, mostly for cheap-ass customers. They have never exceeded my expectation of a "just barely good enough" router.

I hope you're wrong. I like Linksys products. In my opinion Belkin has made (or re-labeled) some pretty good stuff -- I've used their wired routers and switches without any problems -- and one USB wireless adapter.

Linksys is already dead- Cisco killed it long ago.

I never cared much for either brand honestly. Older pre-cisco Linksys wasn't bad... Can't say I ever liked Belkin.

Oh well.

Never had any problem with either brand. Never had any problem with NetGear, Asus or D-Link either.

I've had problems with just about everyone on the consumer side. I'm to the point where i just don't like any of the consumer stuff.

Netgear has been the most disappointing as of late.
