1) 2wire as a router sucks, use it as a modem only. (get another router, put PPPoE credentials in that router) Even with a good router though, you can't use 100kb/s upload on ADSL/adsl2+ and expect smooth sailing on the downloads

2) Ideally get something like a linksys e4200v1 that supports toastman tomato for QoS rules (w/ TC-ATM patch for ADSL/ADSL2+) if you want any chance of being able to browse comfortably while uploading.

3) Consider upgrading to VDSL (Fibe 15/10) if available in your area.

Thanks for the info! It isn't the uploading I'm worried about though, that is a known limitation of ADSL. It is the fact that if I download at even as little as 10% of my available bandwidth, I can't do anything else. Whether I limit my torrent application to 100kB/s or 1024kB/s, I cannot browse http internet.
