Upcoming Gnome 3.8

said by »blogs.gnome.org/mclasen/2013/01/···ay-mark/ :

We are a bit past the midpoint of the development cycle for GNOME 3.8. That seems like a nice time to take a look at what new things are coming – most new features are visible at least in rudimentary form at this point.

Some may be interested in the removal of "fallback mode" to a new "classic mode" that feels like Gnome 2.x in some respects, but sits on top of the full Gnome 3 stack.

This looks interesting but will take a lot more than that to get me to move away from XFCE.

I have to agree. I absolutely hate Gnome 3.x. I hate the new desktop. I know I can't customize themes in XFCE, but Gnome doing away with ability to easily customize themes is just plain old stupid in my book. It's not what I would call an advance in functionality in any way, shape, or form. The fact that they did so really angered me and I'll stick with XFCE until the Gnome developers decide that getting rid of the ability to easily customize your own desktop isn't an advance in their product.
