| Internet in Grey county, Ontario Looking for any sort of 'high-speed' in Grey County, out near Walter's Falls.
»maps.google.com/maps?q=44.506667···t=h&z=14
End of the line for the lines (hydro & Bell use same pole, they're last house serviced on the line). Bell's site says 6mbps is available, however Bell also refuses to service/upgrade the line, so anything nearing that speed is completely out of the question. Currently using a Rogers cell device, $45/month, 128kbps down, 2gb/month. Essentially looking for any alternatives. Tower is already up.

My mom's considering moving up there. She may get a job offer this weekend (it's been in the works for months on end now - just waiting for client signoff), and she needs faster internet than is currently provided. -- Battle.net Tech Support MVP |

Works well for me around Meaford On - depends on the proximity to a Rogers tower. |

 | reply to resa1983 ah, Grey County. I think they are one of the countires that sold off their population (and local entrepreneurs) to Bell and Rogers so that the likes of Bell et all can charge ridiculous sky-high fee's.
See: » Bruce County. No competiton for you
After they got it in, people started getting mega-bills in the hundreds. Kinda funny.
Maybe there is info here for who is around that you can choose from: »www.grey.ca/government-administr···tiative/
Xplornet seems to be there, but I do believe they throttle, charge insane overages and lock you into multi-year contracts. Not 100% sure though. But you can search this forum for Xplornet. Pretty sure they are mentioned more than one on Geists site for various reasons
Let us know what competition you find out there. Has me curious. |

Works well for me around Meaford On - depends on the proximity to a Rogers tower. Rogers does not have LTE coverage up there. Bell/Telus don't either, you have to be closer to blue mountain in order to get LTE in that area. |

| reply to stacked deck Whats funny was I was on that grey county site already, looking through options.
I heard that the cell modem service was decent at least with Rogers til they hiked up the price, and removed the overage fees.
I've pretty much realized if they want internet, they'll need to go WISP - which is fine since they have the tower already - but the speeds just aren't sufficient as my mom does occasionally work on proposals and such from home. :\
As for Xplornet: I'm quite aware of their practices... Bruce Street Telecom was also on that FOIA from Michael Geist.
»www.grey.ca/government-administr···oviders/ Bruce Street Telecom - No residential Grey Bruce Telecom - 79.99 for 5mbps Ehtel - 64.99 for 5mbps, 35GB HuronTel - Ripley area only Maximum ISP - 69.95 for 3mbps PacketWorks - not really an option Point to Point broadband - out of area -- Battle.net Tech Support MVP |

DSL and cable are absolutely NOT available out there, as far as I know (Rogers cable for sure). I have been out there with my Telus 3G phone (LTE absolutely not available) and gotten reasonable connection. The problem out there is the hills. Local dealers will let you buy the stick and give you a few days to try it out. If it doesn't work, bring it back for a refund.
Bell's coverage.
Telus coverage
All of those are a tad optimistic. I know the coverage just north on LFCATC Meaford is just wrong. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

 | Check with www.maximumisp.ca they may service that area. |

 | Mark from MaximumISP has service in Sauble Beach. He has a really good network. I would check him out as I think he also offers seasonal. |

Not sure if these guys extend over to Walter Falls, but we are between Sauble and Southampton and the service has been great. Offer seasonal, and support has been good when we have had issues. Speed is fine for surfing, and using VPN for work. Right on the edge for streaming video, some days good
Highly recommended |
