FCC takes power away from NIMBY's for temp cell towersBased on a law passed in 2012, the FCC has stripped local government of powers to hold up deployment of temporary cell towers, COWs, etc. It also limits their ability to prevent modifications to EXISTING cell towers Too bad that law didn't also take away local governments power to stop NEW cell tower placements altogether. » www.politico.com/story/2 ··· 747.htmlProviding more certainty to industry and municipalities, and more flexibility to carriers to meet extraordinary, short-term service needs will accelerate private and public investment to strengthen our nations communications networks, said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski in a statement.
On Friday, the commission defined and clarified a technical provision in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 regarding local review of requests to modify an existing wireless tower or base station. The provision will accelerate deployment and delivery of high-speed mobile broadband to communities across the nation, the commission said.
FCC today also launched a proceeding to expedite placement of temporary cell towers cells on wheels (COWs) and cells on light trucks (COLTs) that are used to expand capacity during special events. |

Well I am a multi-dimensional person and not locked in to all aspects of a leaning towards a favored political philosophy. Practicality is my overriding philosophy - along with "what is best for ME". I find that he is primarily an advocate for big business; if a rule empowers big business then he is all for it. If a rule restricts big business then we need to get rid of that law and de-fund the agency passing it... smaller government.
When most people use the term 'smaller government' what they really mean is 'more powerful business' or a 'more free market'. |

This could be a good thing, but it also comes with potential drawbacks. For instance, I'd be rather perturbed if a service provider decided to drop a temporary cell tower in the neighborhood - even if it was just for a couple weeks to support a large event. These things aren't the most attractive looking pieces of equipment and do take up space. But avoiding things like this is one of the reasons I moved about as far beyond the suburbs as possible. Still, however, I'd like to have the Town have the power to prevent a deployment of temporary sites if enough of its residents objected. |

we do need something though to speed new towers through Planning and Zoning. One person can hold up construction. And really towers are not that ugly, you barely notice them after awhile.
Unlike those fake pine tree cell towers that stick out like a sore thumb. I cannot understand why people think those are better than the typical slender grey steel tower. My mind tends to ignore the normal towers but when I see the tree ones I instantly can tell something is a bit off with that tree. |

I think local governments should be stripped of their authority over cell site placement completely and jurisdiction over cell tower placement and design should be with the state Departments of Public Utilities to have a central authority at the state level as opposed to have fight every city council, zoning boards, board of selectman, etc. Giving local cities and towns too much control creates too much red tape for economic development. The city I live in is so corrupt that the less power they have, the better. |

Wait until MGM or whichever casino gets the bid. The sad fact is the FBI has a building in Springfield (so does the DEA FYI if you didn't know) and they only spend there time investigating dirty cops. |
