IowaCowboy posted : I think local governments should be stripped of their authority over cell site placement completely and jurisdiction over cell tower placement and design should be with the state Departments of Public Utilities to have a central authority at the state level as opposed to have fight every city council, zoning boards, board of selectman, etc. Giving local cities and towns too much control creates too much red tape for economic development. The city I live in is so corrupt that the less power they have, the better.

Kearnstd posted : we do need something though to speed new towers through Planning and Zoning. One person can hold up construction. And really towers are not that ugly, you barely notice them after awhile.

Unlike those fake pine tree cell towers that stick out like a sore thumb. I cannot understand why people think those are better than the typical slender grey steel tower.
Androidian posted : This could be a good thing, but it also comes with potential drawbacks. For instance, I'd be rather perturbed if a service provider decided to drop a temporary cell tower in the neighborhood - even if it was just for a couple weeks to support a large event. These things aren't the most attractive looking pieces of equipment and do take up space. But avoiding things like this is one of the reasons I moved about as far beyond the suburbs as possible. Still, however, I'd like to have the Town have the power to prevent a deployment of temporary sites if enough of its residents objected.
