[Northeast] High pings / bad routing...I use to get a ping of 10ms or so to this game server network, but lately the routing over verizon took a turn for the worst and I am getting over 100ms to a somewhat local server... 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 75mbpsFIOS [192.168.1.1]

Thats a peering point, its not Verizon's issue but the games ISP isn't paying for the bandwidth there customers are trying to consume
tinet comes up allot on people complaining about bad pings, if your paying for that game service, complain, its their issue, not Verizons |

While I agree with guppy's presentation, it's also worth nothing the spike right before it exists the Verizon Network, hitting 88-32-83ms.... this is a really bad traceroute to be using to determine whose issue it is.
Vamp, you should probably do a few more traceroutes and post them.
Sometimes a single traceroute isn't enough to make a solid conclusion on where the issue is. |

I am having the same issue. I live in Central NY, the past few days service has been downhill. I am experiencing slow page loads, timeouts, higher latency etc.. I'm also an online gamer, I play on a NY server and am seeing pings in excess of 100ms. Here's where things got a bit strange, earlier when I ran a ping test it showed me as being located in the midwest and auto-selected the Dallas, TX or OK servers as the best servers which would explain pings in excess of 100ms to a NY server. That was after attaining a new ip address/route after leaving the router and ont off for a bit and rebooting both. I did the same again, got a new ip address/route which shows my location as being back in New York State. However I am still experiencing slow page loads, page timeouts and higher ping/latency (in excess of 50ms - 100ms) to local servers. Here is my speedtest result: » www.speedtest.net/result ··· 1626.pngI am on the 50/25 plan. Clearly not getting anywhere near 50/25 or even half that. |

That's right, TI NET needs to up their bandwidth to match their customer consumption.
They are oversold. |

Interesting theory's but everyone else in the servers run on that network are not having any issues at all. said by guppy_fish:tinet-gw.customer

I posted in the Verizon Direct section a while ago since I really don't feel like calling. At least hoping for some word about issues with their network in the Northeast and an ETA when these issues should be resolved but no reply yet. |

I live in a suburb of Syracuse, NY and have a 25/25 FiOS plan. Ping requests to CNN, CapitalOne, and other sites are timing out for me. I have plenty of bandwidth though. This all seems to have started earlier this week more or less. |

said by Vamp:Interesting theory's but everyone else in the servers run on that network are not having any issues at all. Not sure what your trying to say, if you mean other users in the game aren't experiencing issues, they likely are on different networks with different peering points. It not a theory ( peering ) its how the internet works and anyone BUT teir one providers have to pay for the bandwidth and they are cutting corners ( the ones that do have to pay for peering ) The peering point is the issue, not the game servers network or Verizon's network, its a choke point from alternet to tinet, tinet has many other peering points to for example level3 or possibly with Charter or Time Warner, but in the end, its the tier 2/3 providers that are the cause of the delays. |

Everything is back to normal for now. Not getting my hopes up as I will likely start having problems again tomorrow. |

Yep, problems again today. :/
Verizon, fix your stuff.. |

@Xtreme2 and serith: I also live outside of Syracuse and am having terrible timing out problems the last week or two. I'd say 1 out of 5 requests to almost any website time out My trace routes to Google, Craigslist and Reddit(notice the timeouts in hops 3-6):

I too live in the Syracuse area, specifically Auburn and have the 75/35 plan. I've been experiencing slow page loads, speed tests showing max 50/20. Also experiencing extremely high ping times.
Seems like it started Friday night, got a little better yesterday, now back to experiencing issues. |

On a laptop I was seeing 50% timeouts at some times and was about to tear apart and analyze my wireless setup. Good news is that I checked here first but the bad news is who the hell knows when this will get fixed |

Traced to the same 3 as above. Multiple timeouts |

said by jk111:Traced to the same 3 as above. Multiple timeouts Thanks for the confirmation! Now to find someone Tier 2 or higher at Verizon to see what they can do about it... |

Good luck, I hope this gets resolved. I will be calling tomorrow if I am still experiencing issues. |

When running a speed test, my ping from Auburn, NY to Syracuse NY is over 75ms when it should be more like 5ms. Also same lower speeds and high latency, page timeouts today. I can't even load the Verizon website or see if they are aware of any issues in the Northeast. |

Getting 50-100ms to NYC test servers and lower speed now too to boot Just for laughs(notice this is not some third-party website): verizon.net and verizon.com: |

I'm also in the Syracuse area and came here to see if other people are having issues with their fios as well. This has been happening for a couple of days now and is really annoying because I have to refresh webpages more then once to get them to load. I assume there is a networking issue that Verizon needs to fix. Tier 1 support is useless in fixing this issue because this isn't a user problem. |

Hi I just wanted to add to this even though I left FiOS... I was having this problem back in july (» speednet grade of F) and I alerted the FSC as well as got in contact with NYCDave. I was shocked and upset about the help and response I got. First of all they saw there was a problem and they sent techs to my house to investigate with NYCDave in communication with the techs that were there.. when they got there they immediately thought it was the router even the the router was a brand new revision I they were also kind of rude and were just worrying about getting to lunch. Well what happened after was what really got me annoyed while NYCDave was talking to the tech he had them set the router back to defaults and then he said he would see if the problem resolved. Well it turned out that it did.. however the real problem has to do with what happened next. I was told that the reason the problem happened was because I logged into the router and added one DHCP reservation for my iMac I wanted it to always be 192.168.1.200 but I was shocked to find out that Verizon said that the small change I made could make my FiOS service not work properly. Immediately once the techs heard I made that one DHCP reservation they packed up and left my house with wires all over and an unconnected router. I asked them what is going on.. I said why can't I make one small change a change that anyone with a little bit of tech suaveness could do and may do especially if I was a business they said one change and we can't help you. It turns out that making one simple change can mess up your set up... so be warned. FiOS lost my business to Optimum who by the way will help you no matter what router or configuration you have. |
|
|
Well I can assure you and Verizon that it's nothing to do with my router configuration. Already tried resetting the router to factory defaults as well as rebooting both the router and ont. |

Hi guys,
I'm in a Syracuse suburb and was having the same issues. Today it got worse than ever. Today I was at the end of my rope but as a last ditch effort I changed the DNS settings to opendns (google works too) in the actiontec router settings. Things are already much better across all my devices.
I'm only just now learning about this stuff but so far it's like night and day. Ping is way down and speeds are up. |
|
|
I wish it were that simple for me. I've tried both Google public DNS and OpenDNS, neither resolved the issues I am experiencing. |
|
|
Sorry to hear that. Whatever's been going on started at least a week ago. I thought I was the only one with issues and that I needed a new router or something.
I'm continuing to research this...I do believe something is wrong on Verizon's end but the posts here are the first signs of this I'm seeing. |

I understand that there can be problems when the peering between Verizon and other ISPs/Hosts can become saturated and cause these issues. However, the latency and timeouts(for me at least) as indicated in the trace routes above are happening 2-3 hops BEFORE the last hop when it leaves Verizon's network. |
|
|
to Vamp
Has anyone managed to get a hold of Verizon yet and convince them that there is an issue with their network? |
