The limit on 400-series highways was 70Mph (113Kph) in the 1970's, back when bias-ply tires & drum brakes ruled the road. Most cars on the road didn't have seat belts, airbags & ABS were distant dreams, and headlights weren't much better than having a candle inside a lantern. Road surface technology back then didn't provide the grip that current paving compounds do either. |
