[DSL] Bell FTTN 50 Mbps tier

So I see that Bell will be rolling out a new FTTN 50 Mbps tier soon. As I had predicted they would do. I wonder how long until TSI has access to said tier.

i'd guess they'd get it pretty soon, but i doubt they actually want to sell it and take on that extra capacity with their current costs until they can negotiate a lower rate with Bell. This is also why other providers aren't even offering 25Mbit.

curious where you're seeing 50Mbit/FTTN?

it seems the new 50/10 package is now on the Bell site.

They really need this new tier. The 25Mbps tier is pretty weak with both Internet and HD IPTV on the same pipe and trying to push 2 or more HD channels concurrently. Supposedly this will be limited to nodes using the 7330 DSLAM. Wonder how long until Bell finally rolls out VDSL2 Vectoring to allow for an even higher speed tier like 75Mbps.

In the thread it was mentioned there is some sort of option for $30 to allow for unlimited.

On the site Bell seems to say you can get an additional 125 GB for $25, but I didn't see anything about unlimited for $30. Might be hidden somewhere.

Only $87.00 with 175GB cap could they make it anymore expensive with a lower cap? That price is completely insane.

Well now 25mb with IPTV should be fine on stingers... they didn't really needed a new tier per say.

I don't see Bell offering that since they still have a max cap/80$.

Well never it's 30$ and if bundle with 3 services it's 10$.

Well obviously they can just put a 50mbps profile and cap your Internet speed at 25mbps and leave the rest to IPTV.

Same way they did it with 15/10... Don't know why it took them this long to do it in the first place.

Ah, ok. Well I found it hard to believe they would limit the service to the newer DSLAMs. We'll see... but the more coverage the better.

*shrug* There is more than enough demand for such a tier for Internet alone never mind with Internet + IPTV.

Well what they will limit is probably the 50/10 + IPTV for 7330 SLAMs only. 7330 supports 17a, stinger 12a only... stinger will probably only have 25/10 with IPTV (but 50/10 for sure is available without the IPTV).... Unless they just don't care about the loss of Internet speed for stingers.

If you have a bundle $10 for unlimited! Not bad.

I wonder what profile they are putting you on for 50/10 + iptv. Watching all streams and having the Internet drop to 30 Mbps wouldn't be great.

around 75-80mbps.

But where did this 10$ unlimited come from ?

I called, it's available now. Where did you get confirmation of the 75-80?

Problem is the odds of it being available is about one in 250 or .004 percent. Just like Telus they can only kid themselves and the public for so long before they realize this is basically like dsl and unless you live on the remote dslam it's forgetitsville.

Where there are fttn deployments ( Kitchener, Ottawa and GTA.....) you would be surprised at how many people qualify for 50/10. Every single apartment building served with FTTB should be able to attain those speeds as most apartment buildings on a 7330 have attainables of 140/30. O slams won't be a problem on most apartment buildings as well.

If you can get 25/10, there is a roughly 40% chance that you can get 50/10. (Twice the speed = slightly less than half the reach.)

About half the people who have posted line stats on 25/7 or 25/10 VDSL2 since it got introduced nearly three years ago had attainable max rates over 70Mbps, so Bell had the ability to offer 50Mbps to about half the subscribers wherever 25Mbps is available all along.

The real mystery is why they decided to wait so long.

I'd say for the appearance of annual upgrades when it is cheaper to physically do larger upgrades bi-annually. Looks better to customers and easier to justify price increases I'd speculate.

Haha my thoughts exactly. Rogers is killing them with their new speeds, this speed update is well overdue. Btw... Bell has unlimited caps now but it comes at an exta fee.

It looks like 50/10 is available for my phone number, on Bell's site... and I'm only served by a Lucent Stinger...
