To follow on with what NetFixer said, the Cat 5, or Cat 3 homerun for the modem also gets rid of the possibility that your existing IW maybe very old and not of twisted pair and may also have some faults on the existing IW which will impact your DSL throughput.
I say Cat 5, or Cat 3, because if it is a short run, (mine is like 15 feet) it won't make a noticeable difference. In fact, I am still using the same Cat 3 I used for DSL with my U-Verse and I have a 25 meg profile .7 miles from the VRAD. YMMV
