Re: [NFL] Super Bowl 47 Discussion (2 weeks) I expect little else from this site than trolling hatred for Ray Lewis, and it is certainly well-earned. Its unfortunate though, because there are 52 other players on the team, some incredibly standup guys, guys who have overcome tremendous difficulty in their lives to get where they are.
Same can probably be said for the Niners, a team I respect for the way they play the game.
I for one will be incredibly relieved when this season is over and Ray is gone. His act has worn thin, although to him it doesn't seem to be an act at all. But until the Super Bowl is over I am rooting for the Ravens all the way. Joe "Fluk-o" has set an NFL record for road playoff wins (8), and could even potentially match/eclipse Joe Montana's greatest postseason ever. Joe has 8 TDs and 0 picks *knock on wood*, Montana finished his best postseason with 11 TDs and 0 picks. Not saying it will happen, but the fact that its a possibility is a remarkable accomplishment for such an "average" QB.
People hate the Ravens for all kinds of reasons. Maybe Skip Bayliss told them to, or maybe they just hate Ray Lewis because he represents pure evil or something. Its too bad, though, because we have a Super Bowl consisting of two old school heavyweights who want to bring their own brand of physicality to the game Sunday. I'll be avoiding the media circus all week (I cancelled cable months ago), and will be just focusing on the game itself. Should be a good one. |

drslashGoya AsmaPremium join:2002-02-18 Marion, IA | In the vein of Flacco setting a playoff road win record, it is a remarkable feat. I find it hard to reconcile that Flacco may be as good as many of the great QBs with post season success. Flacco is in his own company as far as playoff road wins goes. Montana, Elway, Favre, Aikman, Brady, both Mannings are all judged to be much better QBs than Flacco, again, hard to reconcile putting him in that company. It can also be said that their respective teams were better overall than the Ravens since they didn't need to win on the road due to home field advantage. But, there is no denying Flacco's success in the playoffs. A win in the NFL is hard, a playoff win is harder, and a road playoff win is harder still. IMO, Flacco will deserve high accolades if the Ravens win the superbowl and he plays a key role in getting the win. -- Save water...drink beer! -- #occupytheworkplace -- Obama...it's junior high school all over again! -- Democrats don't mind raising taxes because democrats don't pay taxes. |

Once the Stillers are out of it, and if the Ratbirds are still in it, I generally root for the Ratbirds.
It's kind of a mutual respect; maybe even a sibling rivalry since the two teams play the same type of ball.
I don't think there are a lot of Ratbird fans that have that same kind of feeling towards the Stillers.
It may have something to do with the fact that the Ratbirds have never beaten the Stillers in the play-offs, Even when they were the old Browns. -- Shine on you crazy diamond... |

| reply to rockotman Hey Rockot - I'd say you're on point about the Stillers/Ratbirds thing . I'd root for PIT in a few scenarios, including a playoff game vs NE, or a Super Bowl vs DAL. Maybe even vs SF, because I am getting a taste for their fanbase. These may be expanded upon if the Ravens win this weekend. Baltimore is trying to get where you guys have been all along so there is definitely an inferiority thing going on, but they are capable of changing that. I guess just getting to the big stage is a massive accomplishment, but nobody remembers the loser. |

 | reply to f0rtys3ven said by f0rtys3ven:Wheres the ray ray deer antler discussion? I seriously doubt the NFL will suspend the guy for using antler extract before his last game. Unless they make a deal with the player's union so that they can suspend him and immediately get the suspension appealed letting him play anyway.
I'm not sure why antler extract would be a banned substance anyway. From what I've read, all it does is help someone heal faster. Is there any reason why people wouldn't want someone to heal faster? -- Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty - Ronald Reagan |

There is no evidence that he took the antler stuff. The guy that runs the drug company is claiming that Lewis took the stuff and is claiming that he has Lewis on tape agreeing to take the stuff. There's no way the NFL has time to investigate this fully before the game Sunday, so Lewis has nothing to fear. MAYBE if solid proof is presented it will affect his HOF status. -- Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty - Ronald Reagan |

Ultimately denials and no failed drug tests may not save Lewis if the accuser is willing to swear in court he gave Lewis the drugs.
And as an interesting side note PGA notable Vijay Singh has admitted using it. And that may get him suspended from PGA Tour for up to 1 yr. He is 49 yrs old; hasn't won in 4 yrs; and may have been taking it for the type of human growth hormone that is part of deer antler spray. Though he admitted using it, he claims he didn't know it was prohibited - LAME!!! -- A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. The company that sold it to him said they have voice mails and an invoice to prove it. It's over for Ray if the NFL investigates the claim. They might wait 10 years first like Lance though.
