Silly CCTV DVR question regarding resolution.

To my understanding, D1 is the highest resolution, HD1 is the second highest resolution, and CIF is the lowest resolution.

In this DVR I have, if I set it to D1, it shows up as having the most amount of hours available on the hard drive for recording. Set to CIF, it shows up as having the least amount of hours available on the hard drive left for recording.

Shouldn't the higher resolution option be the one that leaves me with less recording hours on the drive? Am I missing something really trivial and obvious?

Thanks!

Maybe there is some built in compression formats with the different resolutions that are not mentioned?
