Oakville, ON | MLPPP with Cable and DSL I'd like to bond MLPPP with cable and DSL for redundancy with static IP. I'm in Cogeco land. I have VDSL from Teksavvy now. I need two static IP's and I need to use a Juniper firewall with at least one of those; I would actually like two static's plus the one for the MLPPP bond (I want to host my family phone PBX in my home but I would still like it quite reliable, and I like a point to point VPN to my office). This way if the DSL goes offline the cable will still be connected and traffic will flow both ways, right?
Juniper SSG's can't bond MLPPP on PPPoE connections, so I need something in front to do the bonding and pass through of the static (not 1:1 NAT, I need true routing pass through so I don't have to do NAT-T for the VPN).
Is there any carrier who can do this? Start said no to multiple IP's, Teksavvy doesn't do MLPPP across cable / DSL (and esp. not in Cogeco land of course). Anyone?
Then I was thinking about it for some clients. If it's Rogers land is it possible?
Or am I better doing a VPN option to a public IP at work? If so I'll have to get into termating a route based tunnel on a Juniper from multiple initiators. Hmmm. |

kudos:20 | Caneris/Acanac were the only ones who ever implemented MLPPP over disparate connections. My understanding is that they basically run a PPP session over a VPN on the cable line, and bond that to the PPP session from the PPPoE session. This is all custom code.
Considering the lead developer quit Caneris quite some time ago, I'm not sure that they're still working on this. If they haven't, you're SOL; your only other option might be to run PPP-based VPNs on all connections and bond them (like IPSEC or PPTP). Nobody really supports bonding connections with different speeds very well (that was part of the Caneris/Acanac solution), so you'll be stuck in lowest-common-denominator territory.

There are independent companies that provide managed cable+dsl (+other) bonding services, including TeloIP.
It's more business oriented, given the monthly fees. |

Are you saying that the code (source in particular) hosted off »www.fw5.net/ might get refreshed, or will it be Acanac-specific binary only update? |
