I'm a tiny bit nervous about upgrading, since Eden is working so well for me.
I might wait a bit... -- "Geez, I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake." |

Thanks darcilicious ; heading over to get it. Great Media Center software and the artwork is cool too..

|
 | reply to darcilicious I upgraded from Eden. Impressions:
- It's faster, startup and shutdown particularly
- The new audio engine is causing abnormally low gain on my analog audio out that I have not figured out how to circumvent -- Scott Brown Consulting |

 | reply to darcilicious XBMC is great when you can gat what you wanna watch. Too many times you get error messages instead if the show(s) you want to watch. I gave up on it. Just don't enjoy staring at error messages. |

| Software media streamers like this do best with local content (DVD rips, etc). Many plugins to get at online streaming are "hacks" of various sorts and/or suffer from their own popularity.
If you're looking for a lot of online access, get a Roku (and maybe install Plex Media Server instead for local content -- there's a Roku channel for Plex, for example, so you can the best of both worlds). -- ♬ Dragon of good fortune struggles with the trickster Fox ♬ |

I'm going to wait and see how things shake out here over the next couple of weeks before giving it a try. -- "Geez, I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake." |

 | From what I read, it's not a defect in XBMC so much as a defect in an old audio driver. I didn't expend a lot of effort on it because I'm replacing that machine soon anyway, and hopefully the gain issues disappear with it. Anyway don't hold off just because of my report. -- Scott Brown Consulting |

 | reply to darcilicious darcilicious I agree, I use Plex and love it. You can also install it on some TV's like my Samsung's. Works great.
But for a full HTPC with tuner , XBMC is good and flexible once you get it setup and working. |

| said by mmainprize:But for a full HTPC with tuner , XBMC is good and flexible once you get it setup and working. The XBMC crew has definitely made some progress in the past year or so fur PVR/tuners. However, I invested in SageTV years ago and some awesome SageTV users wrote a Plex Server scanning agent so that SageTV recordings show up in Plex -- and for PVRs, there's nothing that compares to SageTV -- ♬ Dragon of good fortune struggles with the trickster Fox ♬ |

I like the Vista Media Centre which XBMC is kinda like when started up...only XBMC functions.
Works well on my setup. |
