Re: [TWC] RR terribly slow Pings to my gateway(1st Hop) |
This is my 1st hop to RR network in Albany and my pings are crazy high to my gateway. I'm averaging 80-100ms to everything with spikes up to 2000ms regularly :-( hopefully they resolve this soon or i'm going to move where fios is because dsl is too slow. |

Decent speeds in the wee hours of the morning. At peak time, seems anyone I visit in town, besides myself, is suffering along with me. Huge packet loss, bad download speeds. Changing the mtu of my network interface to 576 on the wan side seems to help with recovering from all that packet loss, making the connection somewhat useful. Been a long time since I reviewed TWC and this has been going on for so long that it is about to be included in my review update. You aren't gonna like me, TWC!!
Edit: Taking forever just to download a 168MB netinstall image of Debian for a machine I am putting back online. Plugging along around 50KB/sec
Edit2: Worth noting even a download of that size would likely die with mtu set at 1500, 1492(yes, I know that's PPPoE, but auto actually says 1480 on this line), or auto. -- A fool thinks they know everything.
A wise person knows enough to know they couldn't possibly know everything.

| reply to Speedy Petey I got a letter that things were speeding up. Yet I'm still waiting. Sure the speed "test" says things are faster but that is just so FALSE. Compare a Bus Vs. a Roadster. The Roadster (Time Warner) goes faster only in TW conducted tests on their own network. But the Bus brings soooo much more data across the finish line. Hence TW is just full of hot air (lies). Listening them tell their scripted lies is almost too much to bear. Every once in awhile a level tech sounds surprised we know what they're actually doing when explained to them. And to boot, they refuse to stop charging for equipment rental even though we've stopped using their modems and have bought our own modem and router for years now. They're no better than the other corporations that are for-profit at all costs even when it sticks it to the consumer. |

Maybe in your area 78 (549MHz) is the amplifier pilot channel that keeps the main line amps balanced.
I would guess you are somewhere in NY state? I have seen posts here at dsl reports that show the 23.8MHz and 19MHz channels being used for upstream in NY state including NYC. |

JabbuPremium join:2002-03-06 | reply to ROB124 You just need a new modem if a reboot clears your issue for X amount of time.
If there was an area problem, a reboot will not resolve, same as a line issue. |

 | reply to motorola870 I am in Fairport, NY. Periodically our connection slows to a crawl and stays slow. When I re-boot the modem I get a fast connection that may stay fast for days to weeks. I wonder if this is a problem TWC will fix if I request it. Otherwise it is easier to just keep re-starting the modem. |

Upstream (dBmV) 39.9 39.4 it would be nice to know what frequencies your modem is using along with the SNR. Could you copy and paste all of the info as power level does not give enough info alone. example from my modem stats: Downstream Bonded Channels Channel Lock Status Modulation Channel ID Frequency Power SNR Correctables Uncorrectables 1 Locked QAM256 5 807000000 Hz -6.0 dBmV 35.8 dB 986 0 2 Locked QAM256 1 783000000 Hz -4.1 dBmV 37.6 dB 56 0 3 Locked QAM256 2 789000000 Hz -4.6 dBmV 37.2 dB 94 0 4 Locked QAM256 3 795000000 Hz -5.0 dBmV 36.6 dB 211 0 5 Locked QAM256 4 801000000 Hz -5.3 dBmV 36.4 dB 365 0 6 Locked QAM256 6 813000000 Hz -5.9 dBmV 36.5 dB 639 0 7 Not Locked Unknown 0 0 Hz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0 0 8 Not Locked Unknown 0 0 Hz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0 0 Upstream Bonded Channels Channel Lock Status US Channel Type Channel ID Symbol Rate Frequency Power 1 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 10 2560 Ksym/sec 33000000 Hz 42.2 dBmV 2 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 9 2560 Ksym/sec 36500000 Hz 42.2 dBmV 3 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 11 2560 Ksym/sec 29500000 Hz 42.2 dBmV 4 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 12 2560 Ksym/sec 24500000 Hz 42.2 dBmV I am curious to know what upstreams your modem is bonding along with downstreams. Curious to see how TWC set up the upstreams in your area to see how much bandwidth they have enabled on the upstream. |

 | reply to Bill_x492kq I have the same issues as well. I noticed when they added an extra upstream for the wideband my connection went to h*ll. They keep acting like nothing is wrong but i'm pinging over 20ms to my gateway and my modem was replaced and every line from the tap to the modem

 | reply to Speedy Petey Speeds have been lousy in Bar Harbor (ME) for the last month or so. Sporadic intervals of half download speeds (on a 15Mb/1Mb connection). Most of the time it's been down around 2-3Mb down and today it's dropped to 0.5Mb (466Kb/578kb). The TWC's maintenance page doesn't state anything specific happening locally. I hope they get their act together soon. |
|
 | reply to Speedy Petey Looks like they fixed whatever issue was affecting me. I'm now pulling down youtube and gamespot videos at ~30Mbps. |

 | reply to mromero Yea, looks like a bunch of planned maintenance in my area from the 4th to the 8th. Better be adding more capacity or something, starting to really hack me off. Certain youtube channels are blazing fast (30Mbps or higher), while others are like .5. It's all over the map. |
