Selenia posted : The bullshit continues. Slow speeds for months. Good modem signal levels. Decent speeds in the wee hours of the morning. At peak time, seems anyone I visit in town, besides myself, is suffering along with me. Huge packet loss, bad download speeds. Changing the mtu of my network interface to 576 on the wan side seems to help with recovering from all that packet loss, making the connection somewhat useful. Been a long time since I reviewed TWC and this has been going on for so long that it is about to be included in my review update. You aren't gonna like me, TWC!!

Edit: Taking forever just to download a 168MB netinstall image of Debian for a machine I am putting back online. Plugging along around 50KB/sec

Edit2: Worth noting even a download of that size would likely die with mtu set at 1500, 1492(yes, I know that's PPPoE, but auto actually says 1480 on this line), or auto.
--
A fool thinks they know everything.

A wise person knows enough to know they couldn't possibly know everything.

There are zealots for every OS, like every religion.
future1 posted : I got a letter that things were speeding up. Yet I'm still waiting. Sure the speed "test" says things are faster but that is just so FALSE. Compare a Bus Vs. a Roadster. The Roadster (Time Warner) goes faster only in TW conducted tests on their own network. But the Bus brings soooo much more data across the finish line. Hence TW is just full of hot air (lies). Listening them tell their scripted lies is almost too much to bear. Every once in awhile a level tech sounds surprised we know what they're actually doing when explained to them. And to boot, they refuse to stop charging for equipment rental even though we've stopped using their modems and have bought our own modem and router for years now. They're no better than the other corporations that are for-profit at all costs even when it sticks it to the consumer.

Downloading via Steam will max my connection, but downloading video's on Gamespot/youTube, etc I barely get over 1Mbps on a 50 connection. This is in KC so not sure if it's widespread or what.

Same here. A web accelerator/cache on my phone and squid caches on my laptop and network(network one consults the one on laptop if I accessed sites on it from elsewhere, not to mention caching what I loaded on wifi saves 4G data and speeds up inferior APs I run into) have often saved me from an even worse experience. You are so far from me yet same issue. Signal is good, so is VoIP even. Seems to only affect http. Not using http/https ports for OpenVPN results in a much faster and more stable VPN connection. Wonder if them preparing to participate in 6 strikes and setting up.new hardware for browser redirections and such has anything to do with it.
--
A fool thinks they know everything.

A wise person knows enough to know they couldn't possibly know everything.

There are zealots for every OS, like every religion.
