Is this fake or real, if the later why did no one act???

No gore thankfully, but still I cannot fathom why no one would call for assistance. The lady was clearly in distress.

The latter.

“She was coming from University to the Drummond side,” said Marzette. She was diligently trying to wade across the rushing water at the top of McTavish near the student union building, when, as the video shows, it seemed like she was about to get hit by an object floating down the slope. The video shows her losing her balance, then seeming to resign herself to the situation while being carried away by the surging stream.

Luckily, her 15 minutes of fame ended without injury. “She was very embarrassed and didn’t want anyone to contact her,” said Marzette.

Worried that she was suffering from shock, the bookstore staff did call first responders to the scene, but the woman wasn’t in need of medical attention.

That was equivalent to a high rank 1, low rank 2 whitewater. The was moving a good clip, hitting a planter box, vehicle, light standard can cause injuries.

Again the crowd is more interested in the "show" then assisting.

Good to see she wasn't injured.

If they try helping her they might lose their iPhone in the process. Everybody thought that Somebody will help but Nobody tried.
It's true somebody did help her in the end.

A bunch of university kids from the youtube generation who've never seen any real danger in their lives. I'm sure they all thought it was a joke and it never crossed their minds she could actually be injured.

Sure they have, the danger that their precious little electronic trinkets could get wet. Maybe one of them got an ipod or smartphone wet once they were still suffering from post traumatic stress disorder from that and were frozen in fear. Pathetic.

she shouldn't have gone in the water to begin with...dumbass...people simply don't understand the power of rushing water...GTFO!

if i was there, i would have helped her, buy calling 911.

Save what, you can't rescue a person from their own stupidity.

(Shame that pipe didn't break open in the summer, looks like a hell of a fun ride )

The world would be a sadder place if there were more people like you that wait around for help from 911 when their intervention could have helped.

I have experienced that power of flash flood, few years back. Just got stranded on part of washed up road. Emergency crew helped us stay there for entire night. I will never put a foot in such water.

i (or you) wouldn't have been any help...fast moving water is very powerful, and without the proper equipment and training, you would simply end up being victim #2.

In this specific case immediate assistance would have been questionable. Further down with diminished flow perhaps possible. But given you would have stood there, and in all likelihood not explored that possibility as you eased your conscience by calling 911, we can't know.

The point is that there is a prevalence in western society, [deleted] to disengage form assisting people except from a cocoon of safety. As I pointed out I was in a 4 car collision recently in which I was hit and within seconds I was on the phone to 911 and climbing in the vehicles to ascertain injuries despite the fact there were live lanes, leaking fluids and jagged metal.

Re: Is this fake or real, if the later why did no one act???

perhaps if i were in your situation, i would have done the same...but i wouldn't go jumping in swift moving water, i would let people trained with the proper tools attempt a rescue, otherwise, there could be two people to rescue.

you obviously don't understand how powerful water can be when moving quickly, even if it is only 1 foot deep.

I wouldn't have sat back with my thumb up my ass relying on 911 to save the day but travelled downstream to ascertain the feasibility of attempting to help her. This situation could have ended differently and but for the grace of god you could be her next time. Who do you want on scene, me or you?

Without some safety line, a rescue would be ill-advised as the rescuer could easily be victim #2.
