[AB] Amazing Consistent Speeds with Optik TV/Internet.

^ Hope this URL works, but I have never ever had speeds this fast before. TELUS is rock solid. I know it all depends on your location and how far you are from the DSLAM, an CO. But even if I was far away from the CO or DSLAM, I would still choose TELUS over Shaw.

Shaw is a ripoff, and they false advertise about being the fastest Internet provider in Canada. Which is funny, because Shaw BigPipe buys their equipment from TAC (Telus Advanced Communications).

Anyways, I am on the 25Mbps Down/2.5Mbps Upload, and I am able to upload to people at almost 300KB/sec, and download up to 2.5MB/sec. Very happy with TELUS's service so far. (I am also less than a block away from the DSLAM).

Glad to see you happy. Sadly where I live I cannot get VDSL2 services.

jtl999: Just curious, but what package are you on with Shaw? If you are on the 50Mbps Package, then you are not meeting the full requirements that you should be, and Shaw needs to do some tweaking with your connection. But, if you are on a smaller package, like I am not sure what packages Shaw offers now, since their site is down at night half the time, and I haven't been following Shaw. ^ But your download speed beats my download speed.

The thing with Shaw is, its shared between your neighbourhood. They put you a very HIGH conection, and each home is designated bandwidth as to what they pay for. But this isn't always the the case. Shaw was really bad in my neighbourhood before. I am not sure what they are like here now, but what I hate about Shaw, and other Cable providers is the fact that you have to share bandwidth with the rest of your neighbours.

Whereas TELUS, & Other TELUS Resellers, you have a designated line which is consistent. I do a speed a test every few days just to see, and my speeds sit around the same. So, So far, so good.

Shaw can be really good, all depending where you are located as well. Especially their new network they are implementing along with the Shaw EXO.

Good points but if you are on Telus GPON it is also shared with your neighbors. Also the TELUS services are also shared within the home unlike shaw that can affect the user. (Action tech)

GPON might be shared but you should always be guaranteed your downstream rate as long as Telus keeps their downstream rates at 50mbps (or less) as you will never have more than 32 users per PON. 2.4Gbit/32=75mbit/user (less overhead). All 32 users should be able to max out their 50mbps connection. However, the chassis at the CO with all the GPON OLT cards is probably only fed with gigabit aggregated links and if you had 10 cards 10x2.4Gbit=24Gbit, then you'd have an issue if every PON tried to max their connections.

As for the Actiontec, you can plug any router you desire into the GPON ONT. If you have TV and you don't want to configure your own router, you can use both your own router and the Actiontec for TV simultaneously via a switch between the ONT and routers.
