Re: [NV] New speeds live in Vegas said by bryant313:any gigabit router will do you fine You didn't actually just say that, did you? Not all routers are "fine," not even close, and I require 11n wireless as well (kind of a given with a Gigabit router these days, especially one with a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem integrated as well.
There's nothing particularly wrong with this Netgear one from Cox except I can't do much with it in terms of administration or custom firmware so, at some point it's got to go.
And it overheats pretty severely, almost to the point of me wanting to Jerry-rig a fan onto the vents on top. I mean, really really hot at times, it's a bit ridiculous to be honest.
Anywhoo... ever since the "upgrade" hours ago I've noted that general browsing is very slow, very laggy so I'm guessing it'll pass at some point but, maybe it's related to some DNS issues as well, will do some testing and maybe switch over to Google DNS for a bit. |

 | Yeah, I think I need to upgrade my modem then. I'm not seeing that speed on any test I try. I'm using the SB6120. Thing is it says max for this modem is 150Mbps down, but I'm not even seeing that. |

Also, I'm on 6 channels down, 3 channels up, which seems to be adequate I personally think this is kind of a bad move on cox's part, as 150mbps down on 6 channel's is asking a lot, and only gonna be more headache's for cox to maintain in the future. Cox doesn't promise speed's, just like all other provider's. So if I am you guy's on ultimate, and can keep a solid 100mbps down I would be happy. As these number's are a little high at 150mbps, and not very realistic to expect at all times during peak usage, as all bandwidth is shared. |

As having as many downstream channel's available is key, to keep your speed's more steady, and to have more available bandwidth at all times. |
|
 | A 4x4 Docsis 3 modem is fine for the 50mb tier but it's pushing it with the 150mb tier. |

Estimating capacity: Upstream: 25627 Kbps. Downstream: greater than 200 Mbps.
The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.
Checking for traffic shapers:
Upstream: Burst size: 3813-3948 KB; Shaping rate: 21373 Kbps.
Downstream: Burst size: 29100-31519 KB; Shaping rate: 163632 Kbps. |

 | Well your getting 150/20, there is always a little over provision done by the ISP. |

 | Me = Jealous!

Well now that I have 100/20 since november, I use verizon's speedtest for speedtesting. as there servers are setup to handle faster speed's. Here is the link to it »speedtest.verizon.com/fios300/ |
