[rant] Sketchy Apple

I went and bought a new Airport Extreme and when I went to register it I got a message saying to submit proof of purchase. I took a picture of my receipt and submitted it. I just received a email saying my product registration date was moved but I noticed in the email it said product registered 11/18/2012? I also checked when it was manufactured and the date came back June 2012. I wanted to know did Apple pull a fast one on me and perhaps sold me a refurbished router as brand new?

Highly doubtful. Refurb items go into brown boxes. Where did you buy it?

Maybe a return/open box at BB that they tried to fob off as new?

Maybe Best Buy should be the suspected party

This. If somebody returns something that doesn't "look" open and they don't say it was opened, many stores just put it back on the shelf.

no, but Best Buy likely did...likely not refurbished, just returned and put back on the shelf.

That one was likely new as they are currently selling refurbs for 130 or less(see links below). Just sat on the shelf for a long time or was returned unopened. If you call in to Apple Care and talk to their Agreement Administration department they can get the purchase date corrected. You would be surprised how common this is. It should be the current generation as the 5th generation was released in June of 2011.
