Sorry Just because people are threatening to switch to Google Fiber doesn't mean there is demand for Gigabit internet. You still can't find a server that will let you download at even half that. People just want faster internet. The fact that it is Gigabit is just a bonus and good for marketing.
Re: Sorry Even if they don't switch, they can use it as leverage with TWC.
Re: Sorry And that they will.
Re: Sorry You do realize that even then you would be hard press to hit 500Mbps. You can't even buy consumer routers that put out more than 700Mbps real world WAN-LAN.
said by silbaco:Nevertheless Google is selling 1Gbps for less than most ISPs at 100Mbps. If Google were not present, TWC would probably not be offering 100Mbps in KC or dropping rates for those who complain. Google is succeeding with their ISP challenge even if TWC users don't switch and Google is only in 2 hoods at this point. Will be interesting to see what TWC does when most planned fiberhoods are rolled out.

| || Same old story... if it's new a new speed record people will NEVER find a use for it!|
The fact that it goes into a city opens so many doors! For example if Google fiber came to my city I would setting up VPN LAN connections between buildings as each one would have a gigabit. If this went national it was be AMAZING the office networking we could do from coast to coast!
But bits are so rare right now. Many miners have died harvesting in inhuman conditions just to backhaul this super rare element. Best have all incumbents (with political help) agree to a 5GB cap for ALL broadband so nobody overuses this service without paying per byte of data. You know to pay for all the families of dead data miners.
