Oldest running MAIN PC?I've been cruising the forums recently and I read all about the high speed this/that/etc. It really struck me when I read "I still have an older i7". Wow - I need an upgrade. In that light, I'd ask: WHAT IS YOUR OLDEST - STILL RUNNING - MAIN PC?
Mine: BUILT: Q4/2006 PROCESSOR: 2 x Intel Xeon 5355 RAM: 16GB DDR2/667mHz SATA: YES / II (3GB/S) SAS: YES FSB: 1333mHz PCIe: Yes, v1.x (x16 x 2), 6 slots USB: Yes (USB2) x 8 IEEE1394: YES x1 VIDEO: Came with Quadro 4600 - now a simple/old GeForce 250 NETWORK: 1GB/E AUDIO: Integrated Hi-Def - something - don't know, don't care.
Not sure what I can't do on this v. buying a new one. |

Q1/2008 Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 8 GB DDR2 Memory (Maxed) 750 GB SATA Drive
This system has been on 24/7 for the past 5 years and is still my main system to this day. I recently did a rebuild on it, but still using same hard drive, ram, cpu, etc and don't really have any plans on upgrading anytime soon, at least not the main parts.... want to get more/larger hard drives, bigger power supply, etc. I've already replaced the GPU, but I ran the stock GPU (8800 GT) up until a couple months ago.
The system has been through MANY OS's, including XP, Vista, 7, and now 8. |

The oldest one in my stable is my dad's Athlon X2 4200+. I think I built that in early 2006. Handed it off to him a few years ago after taking off the OC and putting the hard drives in RAID1 instead of RAID0.
My mom's Athlon XP from 2003 was put out to pasture (or rather out behind the barn) last year. |

Q2/2009 - Sony Vaio laptop with a Core 2 Duo w/4GB ram and I think a Radeon HD 4600-something.
It's my wife's main computer. The integrated wifi has died, so she uses a Buffalo micro USB adapter. Still runs great, and I upgraded the HD from a 320GB 5400rpm drive to a Momentus XT (hybrid). |

2 Celeron D, 3.2g built late late 2006. I thought these were the cat's meow when I built them.
I actually built 3 of them at the same time but killed one of them recently by breaking my own rule of not being smart enough to update the BIOS.
I will never do that again. See my page for pictures. |

Oldest still running is something of a rebuild due in part to a malfunctioning Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard which I replaced with an Asus P5G41C-M LX. So its as follows:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Asus P5G41C-M LX (supports both DDR2 and DDR3) 8GB DDR3 1600 1TB HDD 8800GTS Antec 300 case Antec 650W PSU Asus Blu-Ray drive 2560x1440 Auria EQ276W 27" IPS LED monitor
And so on,
.
This is my Wifes dedicated telecommute system which is only used about once a week unless there is a real crunch.
I decommissioned the AMD Athlon X2 4800+ / 3800+ / 3500+ / 3000+ and Athlon XP systems some time ago. |

I rebuilt my rig about two or three years ago which is on 24/7 except for Windows updates or a software install that asks for a restart.
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz 4 GB DDR2 Nvidia Quadro 9600 PCI-E 80 GB SATA II (main drive) 640 GB SATA III (slave drive)
I'm planning on replacing the 19" Dell monitor I bought in 2003 for a 24" Dell when I can. |

Mine is my Oct-2006 Core 2 Duo E6600 on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe. Used daily. I've since added RAM (to 6 GB), hard drives and a few other things. Replaced the original power supply last week when the old one (a 600W Seasonic S12) burnt up. Otherwise it's been the most rock-solid machine I've ever put together. |

Even though it's long in the tooth on these specs, it's very competitive because it has some high end hardware 2xGPU Radeon 580's Crossfire ePCI RevoDrive SSD Samsung 840pro
It will handle everything I throw at it (SC2, BF3, Skyrim, etc etc). Even so an upgrade will come this year. |

My main PC is a Dell GX280 with a 2.8 GHz P4 and 3 Gig memory running under XP since 2004. I actually have a much more powerful and recent PC (Precision 490 w/dual Xeons), but it's too noisy to be my main PC. However, the GX280 will be retired real soon now since I got a somewhat newer Dell with a core 2 quad.
My router is a Compaq K6 with a whopping 64 meg of memory running under Freesco v0.3.4. It boots from floppy, and so far it has worn out at least half a dozen floppy disks and 2 floppy drives. |

Where's Dude111... his PC must have been built back in 1994 or something. |

Haven't used Win 3.1 much, but I think getting graphical inet access from that OS might be a bit of a challenge. I think one should be running at least Win95, but preferably Win98 to be able to post here easily. Given his love of IE6, he could be running Win98, so that likely means a PC no older than 1998. I actually have a 600 MHz P3 running W2K, and given how slow that system is, it's hard to imagine anyone using something below the 1 GHz P3 level with Win98 or a newer OS. Of course, he might just leading us on a wild goose chase. |
